The only surprise I found was that if you install the 64bit version, you don't get an automatic bridge to your 32 bit plugs (if you have any).

Why surprised?

Very few DAW's offer that, Sonar comes to mind as the only one that I know of and from what I remember it was no where close to jbridge in my opinion.

I like the fact that Presonus doesn't waste coding resources on something someone else does so much better...

This always comes up though as if it is an industry standard... Which it's not... In my experience. Besides Studio One works great in 32bit also, just minus the full RAM.

Cubase has/had a bit bridge, so has Reaper. Ableton, i'm not sure. Generally, bridging is rather a pain for me, so i'm not really missing a bridge in S1.

Yes, jbridge is the way to go if you still have 32bit plugins that you need to use.

To be honest, I only have one plugin now that is only 32bit, and it is one that I can live without. 64bit plugins seem to be pretty much the standard offering now (with 32bit as an option as well), so not having a plugin bridge in a DAW is not likely to be an issue anymore.

I beg to differ. Rewiring Reaper to Studio One allows both the hosting of 32bit plugs, and the correct amortization of CPU load across multiplr cores when using CPU intensive third party plugs.

It does strike me as weird that the best way to acheive these outcomes is to use almost any other rewirable host that does these things, but hey, who cares, as long as you can.
