In the end it will be more expensive than Cubase and Ableton Live. Bitwig staff must really be thinking we're a bunch of idiots...
+1.

Very disappointed. I might need to start looking elsewhere.

@elxsound

Sorry, but I like to be taken seriously as a customer. Because I put a lot of effort in it. PT, Waves, whatever.
I never make mistakes; I just blame others.

I don't even know what you are apologizing for.

Hm.. Tough one.. Should I put 160€ to BWS update plan that I can be a betatester for a year and pay AGAIN 160€ to be a betatester for another year or should I put 169€ to FLStudio producer edition with lifetime of free updates.. Hmmm..

I love the positive users that are really just trying to rationalize the situation for themselves. The truth is Bitwig was not very popular in the grand scale and they weren't making real money, from what I can find, Bitwig makes 3.8 million annually compared to Image Line at 15.7 million. Instead of making a great product that are massively popular Bitwig is just going to tax the hell out of any existing customers to make more money. Of course the fan boys are going to spin this as great, they would honestly spin anything the company does as great. You have to ask yourself why Image Line doesn't need to charge for updates and why Cakewalk tried this method and then had sell lifetime updates for a year. This method is a failure.

Really wish them all the best but they have painted themselves into a corner with this one.

Lets say

1. I don't have an issue with the price
2. V2 works flawlessly out of the box

The issue going forward will always be, as they have stated, a continuous rollout of new features, breaking the version numbers issue.
Sounds great but as we all know every new feature will undoubtably bring new issues , as will every OS or Windows update. This is a fact in all software, so the reality of getting "amazing feature" in the first 12 months is great what about the support for it and all the other amazing features after 12 months. The answer is zilch, nothing unless you pay again. This is patently problematic and they don't seem to realise it yet.

Looks like the bean counters took over, trying to squeeze more and more money out of us. Nice try.

I don't know why people don't like this upgrade but me I loved it. Hey people have paid 130 for chord player and for unfinished darker theme. The price is fare considering how much Ableton live cost. If I'm worried about bug, it is easy I will wait 6 month I will upgrade. Considering that it is going to cost me 160 from any version is very much like genorasity from Bitwig team. So I will be the first one to thank them and thank you Bitwig team. :tu:

Anyone seen any mention of an update to the 8 track version?

Lolz, I was thinking about getting this again, found it cheap, bought.

You are going to pay 169, Ableton user probably 199. But you stop getting updates after one year. Ableton update cycle is about 4 years, so I get 3 yeras more up "free" updates. If BW release something you want after 1 year you will be payong another 169 USD, 338 in total.

In the long run BW will be the more expensive DAW.

Live 9.5 introduced more for free than this heap. An improved WARPing engine was not even mentioned, and that's part of Live's Core Value Proposition. Bitwig's is horrendous. The license shall sit on my shelf, where it's been for months.

On the flip side, I'm loving Live.

Well, finally!

The new features and interface improvements address some of the concerns I had, looking forward to seeing reviews and more detailed lists.

So regular price will be 697eur / 3 years, so about 19,40eur/month. 17,20/mo if you buy now. It's not that expensive when split like that tbh, but it is expensive compared to competition... which is unfortunately #1 in the market and mature at v.9.7. Perhaps they should have tried to price it more aggressively to grow the user base before asking for more than the established software they will be facing off. Of course it's debatable whether BWS should be compared to Suite or Standard feature-wise, but the included devices in Suite are way above what BWS ships with.
