So regular price will be 697eur / 3 years, so about 19,40eur/month. 17,20/mo if you buy now. It's not that expensive when split like that tbh

I have to be honest with you I'm already happy with Bitwig it is already a decent DAW now. With extra goodies form version 2 it will become great even more. I can't try Ableton live ever again because of the wacky PDC. Plus Ableton initial investment is very expensive. Where as the Bitwig investment plus anytime upgrade price method will save anyone a considerable amount of cash. I'm saying this with all my heart, I'm very happy about this announcement. I would rather get asked fair amount of cash and receive consistency update and upgrade than paying less and unfinished product again and again. I understand the world is not black and white. This upgrade price might be expensive for some even it can be their monthly salary in developing countries but comparing it with other products and how much they ask for fuckin useless two feature, I say to Bitwig team keep up the good work.rod_zero wrote:You are going to pay 169, Ableton user probably 199. But you stop getting updates after one year. Ableton update cycle is about 4 years, so I get 3 yeras more up "free" updates. If BW release something you want after 1 year you will be payong another 169 USD, 338 in total.Studio Saturn wrote:I don't know why people don't like this upgrade but me I loved it. Hey people have paid 130 for chord player and for unfinished darker theme. The price is fare considering how much Ableton live cost. If I'm worried about bug, it is easy I will wait 6 month I will upgrade. Considering that it is going to cost me 160 from any version is very much like genorasity from Bitwig team. So I will be the first one to thank them and thank you Bitwig team.
In the long run BW will be the more expensive DAW.

I think that new policy will remove one of the major pros of BW so far, namely its price compared to the big ones.
FL have their lifetime free updates, and they don't seem to be going broke...

Live Standard is cheaper than BWS 2, 349 vs 379eur. After 24 months, you've paid another 318eur. This is not saving money.Studio Saturn wrote:Plus Ableton initial investment is very expensive. I invested in Bitwig 1, but never used the software much because I favored other DAW options. With the new pricing model, there is no way I am going to upgrade to version 2 of Bitwig.

Glad you are happy and enjoying it, at the end the most important is what works for you.Studio Saturn wrote:I have to be honest with you I'm already happy with Bitwig it is already a decent DAW now. Nevertheless it is important to point out that BW is not more expensive than Live now.
Live Suite 9: $800 USD, launched in january 2013 up to now it got 4 years of updates and maintenance.
Bitwig 2: $399 USD, you get one year of updates, then $507 for 3 years of updates, total: $906.
Now, supossing next version comes out, the cost for the next update cycle: Live update for another 4 years: $199, for a total of $1000.
For 4 years more of BW it would be $676, total: $1582.
With the difference I would have gotten Push 2 also.

Do you really think it is nessesary to upgrade every year? Why don't you upgrade when you want to?

PDC in Live is fixed, with 2 exceptions that are clearly explained in the manual and their site (plugins that sync to the main transport and plugins in a return track that feeds back in a track that sends to that same Return track).Studio Saturn wrote: I can't try Ableton live ever again because of the wacky PDC.
Even when Live's PDC was worse than it is now, its limits were, again, clearly explained in the manual and their site, and hence fully predictable, unlike other DAWs where the PDC fails without any explanation, or where it clearly shouldn't (unpredictable bugs), which IMO is worse than having no PDC.

Most people want to use the latest version of a software. Ideally, a more recent version also means fewer bugs and greater reliability.

If you are on macOS it is pretty much required as Apple has showed they are going to brake things each year.Studio Saturn wrote:Do you really think it is nessesary to upgrade every year? Why don't you upgrade when you want to?
But yeah, you can hold off, people using most other DAWs will get their updates and bugfixes while you "save" money not enjoying the features BW is rolling out.
The incredible part here is that BW has invented a new bussiness model, before the company aanounced the update and showed the new features, you decided if the features were worth. Now BW asks for the money and they promise you new features, but you don't know what they are, and when they will be released. You now pay in the hope new cool features eventually come. What a stroke of genious they just had.

I hear you, though it is not entirely new. Look at Apple's logic -- the community is in the dark regarding updates and upgrades. HOWEVER:rod_zero wrote:If you are on macOS it is pretty much required as Apple has showed they are going to brake things each year.Studio Saturn wrote:Do you really think it is nessesary to upgrade every year? 1 There have major dot releases since 2013, Alchemy itself being one, VCAs & Electronic Drummer another, etc
2 The WHOLE comprehensive Suite costs $199 USD, no annual upgrade fees. Period.
