I think you are being overly generous to BWS in this comparison. BWS is closer to Live Standard not Live Suite but I get your point!

The price is fare considering how much Ableton live cost. If I'm worried about bug, it is easy I will wait 6 month I will upgrade. Considering that it is going to cost me 160 from any version is very much like genorasity from Bitwig team. So I will be the first one to thank them and thank you Bitwig team. :tu:
You are going to pay 169, Ableton user probably 199. But you stop getting updates after one year. Ableton update cycle is about 4 years, so I get 3 yeras more up "free" updates. If BW release something you want after 1 year you will be payong another 169 USD, 338 in total.

In the long run BW will be the more expensive DAW.
I have to be honest with you I'm already happy with Bitwig it is already a decent DAW now. With extra goodies form version 2 it will become great even more. I can't try Ableton live ever again because of the wacky PDC. Plus Ableton initial investment is very expensive. Where as the Bitwig investment plus anytime upgrade price method will save anyone a considerable amount of cash. I'm saying this with all my heart, I'm very happy about this announcement. I would rather get asked fair amount of cash and receive consistency update and upgrade than paying less and unfinished product again and again. I understand the world is not black and white. This upgrade price might be expensive for some even it can be their monthly salary in developing countries but comparing it with other products and how much they ask for fuckin useless two feature, I say to Bitwig team keep up the good work.
Glad you are happy and enjoying it, at the end the most important is what works for you.

Nevertheless it is important to point out that BW is not more expensive than Live now.

Live Suite 9: $800 USD, launched in january 2013 up to now it got 4 years of updates and maintenance.

Bitwig 2: $399 USD, you get one year of updates, then $507 for 3 years of updates, total: $906.

Now, supossing next version comes out, the cost for the next update cycle: Live update for another 4 years: $199, for a total of $1000.

For 4 years more of BW it would be $676, total: $1582.

With the difference I would have gotten Push 2 also.

$100 subscription a year would be much more reasonable at $8-9 a month... $169 roughly $14-15 a month. Car salesman tactics ....hahahahahaaaa . I guess you can pay for it on credit and make payments all year .Hahahahahahahaha ... Bitwig could do a pay as you go plan and charge interest . These fools gonna get rich now ...

The modularity stuff had me interested, though I tried Bitwig 1 briefly and didn't stick around long. But I'm not thrilled with this model.

Comparing BWS to Live is not totally correct.
Beside workflow preferences the differences ATM are not so equal.

With Live you have thousand of tutorials from basic to very deep levels.

M4L tools are growing in number every week from free to fair priced packs and some of them are complete instruments in their own rights such as Oscilott and Bengal.
(And yes, in my experience very stable).

Free packs are everywhere in addition to Sets
for your sessions experimentations.

User-groups and certification programs.

Etc. Etc.

And a company that has shown the willingness to keep growing in the right direction.

Live is an expanding Universe.
BWS, for now, is a Solar System with its own planets.
And now some Laws are changing while those planets are beginning to get some perspective...

Hey now, nothing overly serious there, just a typical hi....incubus funny attempt. :ud:

But I don't understand either the sub pricing, the upgrade pricing, or version 2.

At this point, the only aspect of BWS which interests me is the MPE support for the Seaboard RISE. I feel no urgency to upgrade, and as far as I can tell, their new pricing structure means that I can wait a few years to see if it eventually becomes worth my while to upgrade. I'm already paying a lot more than this for Adobe Creative Cloud every month, and I was thrilled to pay once for lifetime support for Sonar. The moment either Live or Sonar delivers solid MPE support, I'll likely never touch BWS again. Or, alternatively, if they rethink their pricing structure in response to the overwhelming feedback of their user base.

... did you hear that?

oh, another one!

- That's the sound of champagne bottles @ Ableton headquarters. Their closest competitor just outpriced themselves out of the market while simultaneously offering pretty much nothing in return for the money.
