Sure, but, imagine a couple of devs working 6 years for 600.000 €. Not possible. I'm sure they either brought some money in it too, or got additional funds.
Why? 2 developers makes 300.000 for each. Dividing by six years, gives 50.000 a year. Dividing by 12 months, gives more than 4.000 a month. Quite good, IMO.

I've really wanted to try Bitwig as the modular aspect has me intrigued but yeah I'm pretty priced out here :/

This is a unfair comparison.

Apple VS Bitwig in terms of revenue is not even close. Apple can pretty much afford to give away logic for so little because their entire business is not dependent on Logic sales.

Yet you the consumer are 100% in charge of where you invest your personal resources. dumbledog merely pointed out the simple math involved.

He's not comparing Apple and Bitwig the companies, rather Logic Pro and Bitwig Studio the Products.

Therefore, his comments are 100% salient; yours are reminiscent of a smokescreen to cloud the real issue.

Bitwig isn't 2 developers. See this here also: http://www.b4bberlin-brandenburg.de/nac ... 40910.html

Anyway, pointless to argue about it. They did it. However.

Frankly, I don't care if Bitwig is 2 guys or 200 guys. What I care is what I get for what I am asked to pay. :borg:

I think the bitwig guys run out of state funds and must increase the price to survive. But with this price model they will lost most of there customers. Maybe in few month or years they will be insolvency. It's a pity, but the DAW market is hard, and when I saw that Studio One will sell there pro version for 180,-EUR on every years black fridays. I don't think bitwig has a big chance.

I wish you all the best bitwig.

I also predict a lot of cheap BWS 1.0 licences soon. Abes must be partying hard as soon as they read this. :)

This update strategy is a pure invitation to create some annoying bugs for each update: "oh you want that fixed? Sign up here for our great brand new update subscription". I sincerely hope Ableton keeps the current update model.

Sounds like Steinberg.

Yes, Cubase the DAW you buy new every year.

i wonder if the guys at bitwig are regretting leaving ableton as they did ? .... because this is the end of the road for bitwig. no one in their right mind is going to sign up for this kind of offer, at this kind of price. and finding another job in this industry might be hard considering how they left ableton to essentially make an ableton live clone. but then again maybe a company can overlook such things if your dsp/coding chops are worth it ??

RIP Bitwig. we hardly knew ye.

Paying for bug fixes and minor updates is definitely a problematic aspect to this scheme. Either they assume that no features will ever have bugs, or they really intend for you to continually pay again every year, which makes this more of a subscription. They may not want to call it that, but what are you supposed to do when they release some awesome but buggy feature during month 12 of your upgrade, and then the next month patch that bug? Of course you'd have to pay again.

Furthermore, it does seem like they're suggesting that you pay a lot of money up front, and in exchange you'll receive whatever unspecified features they come up with in the next year. You pay first and then just wait and hope you like what they release.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
