If i had to guess, i would say that the new pricing model will have very little, if any, impact on their sales and customerbase. KVR is hatin', tho.

All bitwigs social media has more or less the same sentiment, not just KVR haters

Well, i don't see social media too different from internet forums. Or the internet in general. It's full of weird folks with minority opinions, opposing to the "real" userbase (or the "real" people, even). For example, i haven't really seen Hans Zimmer comment on Cubase pricing on the internet yet.

Does he upgrade? That promo for his masterclass suggests he uses an old version on an old computer.

Anyway... that's a different topic.

I do think this will hurt them. It's roughly the same model as ProTools, just no penalty for a lapsed subscription, but yet a higher price for annually renewing to receive updates and support.

ProTools is still considered an industry standard, so they have that going for them... but Bitwig does not have the same reputation or requirement.

I was a Bitwig fan, but I guess the opposite.

Frankly, i don't know. He may even have people configuring his computer stuff, or consider the "stable" route the best, i.e. sticking with the stuff he knows works for him. I would even guess that's a rather common thing. I've seen a few artists using a pretty old Cubase version. On the other hand, i have hardly ever seen anyone with a non-current Reason version. I guess it depends on the used host too.

That's just crazy.... Bitwig will become more expensive to use than Pro Tools, Cubase, and Ableton Live (suite version although featurewise it is comparable to Live Standard).

In addition to email support and bug fixes, no one knows how quickly they will add new features. The features you want might get released after your 12 months are up, so you'll feel compelled to buy in again... and why wouldn't they do that... they have to make money, no?

This is so sad, the lost potential to take on Live's monopoly on the non-linear DAW...

Live X announcement at Namm may be timely for Abelton.
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Indeed, a Live X announcement sooner rather than later, e.g at Namm, would be the coup de grâce.

Especially when you consider the Ableton policy when these new major version announcements are made (how you can buy the current version and get the new one 'free' when it's released).

A Stockholm syndrome is having lost Reason? :clown:

In your dream.
Live was a sleeping giant until BWS came out.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ableton reinvent its workflow and takes a lead beyond reach.
They have the money, talent, workforce and a huge user base.
