Much appreciation to all who reviewed my piece.
farluker, can you estimate kHz just by listening? That's impressive.

Even if you dont have an interest in a certain genre (apparently instrumental film music isnt your thing
), there's probably an opinion in there that could be beneficial to the fellow musician that worked hard to create something.

OK let me elaborate a bit then. I do like instrumental film music and even do some myself now and then. I also did just listen to your song again to be fresh on it.jebudas wrote: GuitarJeff, please dont ignore the fact that a potentially wise man once said,(Uh, you said that...Someone once wrote:"I love getting constructive input that makes me go back and see what I could maybe do better. Your piece to me sounds like basically one or maybe 2 sounds with a few chord changes, as opposed to, say , Sepheritoh, or Erki's entries which, to me anyway, sound more like soundtrack stuff.
My input would be to maybe have more parts, more instruments, and more pizazz in general to hold the listeners attention.
The other thing is that this sounds really Lo-FI for this kind of thing. I would expect much more briliance in tone and clarity in movie music. There definitely are some important frequencies missing as Farlukar has already alluded to.
Then again this is just one person's opinion so if you are happy with it, that is all that really matters!
Cheers!

Hey!! Don't be dissin' The Nuge there pal!!Farlukar wrote:Guitarjeff - Had I liked The Nuge, I'd probably have liked this too, but alas. Anyhoo, this is really well made, I like the layered vox, and reluctantly admit being jealous of the incredible guitar playing.
Thanks for the kind words man!
Cheers!

Thanks (I think)
I like your tune. Although I have to admit, I am a bit too young for it to actually really "take me back", but nontheless It reminds me quite a lot of stuff from your target period, so you have a success!!
Cheers!

peppy197, your two-step link doesn't work. i get a yahoo error message when trying to 'save target' from your geocities page.
anyway, i think you might be disqualified for not providing a direct link... so here is my proposal.
send your mp3 to my email address:
wopelka[AT]wopelka[DOT]com
and i'll host it for you till the end of the contest.
cheers

Sepheritoh - wow! when i lived in the uk i could never get the GPO to deliver like that! (sorry crap joke) this is truly beautiful and obviously accomplished music. the only thing i don't like are the curtains behind the guitars in the photo, though i can't hear them on the recording!

and heres page 2.
Y'all lucky Im in a good mood, I havent been to negative sofar and I kinda dig all entries. Maybe I'll change that for page 3
Earthtones – Crave it
A little more sparkle in the high end would do better imho, now it sounds a little (damn I don’t know the word in English
) dull?
Lady J – I lost my robot
Very nice, everything blends together very well, maybe a little too short, I was hoping for a chorus
Dave Spiers – Tugger Jazz
Ok, good, mellow
El Baggio – Acid Country
A break somewhere would be good, nice sounds tho, very spacy, I especially like the flute (?)
Mystahr – Smashid
Nearly blew my speakers... As always with this kind of music, its not my thing, but hey, don’t you worry about that
Glooper – To die for
Is good, but it sounds like I’ve heard it before (you know, the laid back jazzy style and the chord progressions, it’s a little too “been there seen it done that” for me). Do something crazy with it!
Andreas E – Sweet summer rain
The piano sits nicely in the middle and the strings surround it. Great! I wish I could do that… Song itself isn’t that great tho
Plunge – Chloe, Chloe, Chloe
Ooo, nicely put together, nice song. It reminds me of a song, but I don’t know which one. Now this is a 2 minute SONG that really ends after 2 minutes, no need to fade out, or abruptly end it, nope, it lasts 2 minutes and that’s the end of the song (I say this becoz most of the time that’s my problem to end a song). Oh, and it sticks in my head too
Tristeza Orange – Aerial Nova
Sorry, but my speakers start to crackle around 30 secs, bit overcompressed? Not really my cup of tea
Thomasc_dk – Free for all
Man, why so loud? Would be so much better imho without overcompression.
Jebudas – Less than serious
The beginning made me curious, too bad nothing much really happens after that
Sonic Six – Sunset moonlight
As said before: ambient is not my thing, sorry
Knockman – Days
Yes, I can see where you’re going to, but… you didn’t quite reach it. But I love it, its original and I like the sound
TheSystemERA – Overboard
Good, sad mood, the almost whispery singing is great and fits the song perfectly
Fell(jdg) – O0O
I’m not a bass man, so its too bassy for me. But I can imagine this song with some female singing over it and that would be much better I think

You don't know what Jaath means? Try this: say "Donkey Tugger" whilst holding onto your tongue
