I have been playing with vocoders lately and came across TAL Vocoder 2. I find this vocoder wonderfully simple to use, with great features and sounding very good.

There is one annoying aspect though: I cannot make it respond to the sustain pedal or pitch-bend wheel. The fact is, I have been using this and other VST vocoder plugins within VST Host, and all the others (as well as numerous synthesizers) respond perfectly to all normal control codes.

I thought this might be due to the specific MIDI control codes used by the program being different from the ones I am using.

Would anyone have the TAL Vocoder MIDI Implementation Chart, or at least know which control codes to use for Sustain and pitch-bend?

Thank you so much for any help.

Cheers!

Which other Vocoders did you use?

Sooo..., nobody knows anything about this issue... I was hoping that at least Togu Audio Line themselves would be able - and willing - to help... But alas, life is not that simple, now is it?

KVR is not a technical and support service. For a very little number of developers there is a dedicated forum where the developer answers the most important questions, but anyway for a developer there is a solution which is always to ask something to him: asking him DIRECTLY, using the page that this developer put available on his own website. And for TAL it is the case as for almost all the developers.
:)
If you have visited his website, you are not unaware that there is a big menu at the top of ALL his pages, and that in this menu there is a link named "Support" where you can read a FAQ... but where you can ALSO open a form (and find an email address if you prefer that way, as answered ere2learn just above this post) to send him a question or to relate an issue. He ALWAYS answers! I know quite well Patrick and his awesome work and his plugins since at least 2005. He ALWAYS answers! But he ALWAYS answers when the message concerns a product... which has a support.

Beware: he writes very carefully with evidence that the discontinued and free products don't have any support anymore (and that's normal, like state also all the developers in the world). And TAL-Vocoder remains available to download but Patrick says clearly here and again even more clearly here that the old free Products don't have any support any more (even if they remain available to download).
:borg:
Conclusion: it's time now to try another Vocoder if your problem concerns a flaw in TAL-Vocoder. Because Patrick will NEVER make any new update on these old products.

So... try these:

Hey Winny,

you are aware though that you ARE in the TAL forums of this site? :) Patrick is also a KVR member, AFAIK (username: ToguAudioLine, and mod of this forum). He just doesn't visit this site very often, if ever. So, yeah, best to use the contact option on TAL's website. I doubt that he wouldn't give support for TAL-Vocoder, old plugin or not.

Hi BlackWinny!

A reply! Not quite the one I was looking for, but... a REPLY nevertheless! So, big thanks are in order.

Before posting my question here, I explored the support page at TAL and learned that support was not available in my case. So I tried the KVR forum, hoping someone had come across this problem and found a solution. Apparently, to my chagrin, this is not the case. It may even happen that the lack of sustain and pitch-bend MIDI control is a characteristic of the product. I guess we'll never know.

This is a bit of a shame, as I find the TAL Vocoder to be a veeery good vocoder indeed, in its simplicity. Furthermore, I was the proud owner of the Roland SVC-350 many years ago and the TAL Vocoder recreates its sound almost to perfection. Oh well...

Thank you so much for pointing me to the vocoder search in KVR. I already tried a number of them, but I will certainly explore it to the full.

Cheers!

And perhaps that you'll find also other clues by watching some videos on Youtube. to have them in chronological order (the most recent in head of list).

Of course you'll immediately see that some are paywares and some are freewares. But one point is sure : among the freeware (or cheapware) vocoders which are demoed in these videos you'll probably find your happiness.

Hi, chk071,

Further to your entry, one of the reasons I posted my question here was the fact that I saw Togu Audio Line as a moderator of this forum.

As for contacting TAL directly, this proved to be impossible, as you must select the product you are requesting support for from a drop-down list at the top of the contact form. Needless to say, the TAL Vocoder is not in the list...

Cheers!

Ha ha !... Yes you're right chk071 ! :dog:

I've just removed the first paragraph of my first answer, realizing that I had been entrapped by a kind of fatigue not due to an excess of Champagne but by the very late hour here in Paris.

Thanks, BlackWinny! That will certainly be useful and may well hide my ticket to robotic nirvana!...
