There could actually be a number of viable candidates. I'm not so much looking for one specific patch, though that would probably make this a whole lot easier, but more that "stereotypical" brass sound from that era. Let me go dig up a few YouTube videos if I can think if any real quick and I'll post them as quickly as I can.EvilDragon wrote:What would be an example track for the sound?

Maybe some Fusion and RnB stuff, like Maze (one of my favorite bands for decades):

Okay, this is pretty close to the sound I'm looking for.
It's a short demo of the Yamaha GX-1 which is what the intro to Fanfare For The Common Man by ELP was played on, supposedly. There is tons of conflicting info on this and I don't want to get into a long ELP debate because it's all besides the point.
Anyway, this is just one of the many sounds of the era.

Try some Yamaha emulation, like Memorymoon's ME80.wagtunes wrote:Okay, this is pretty close to the sound I'm looking for.

Judging from his video, I suppose this brass is not what he is talking about

Listen to ELP. I don't know any synths that sound like this. The GX had a character all its own.

No worries, Steven the guy will show you, and post an audio example + give you the preset file soon. He's very kind, and not the kind of guy who only talks ...wagtunes wrote:Yeah, seriously. Okay, I just listened to the 3 patches I made and there is no question that Diva comes the closest. In fact, it's really good. It's the envelope. There is something about the Diva envelopes that just work better for this sound. Dune 2's isn't as punchy. More mush. Not a lot more. Just enough to not fit just right, for me anyway. Arturia, forget it. Not even in the running.
So I'm just going to go with Diva because it's close enough. I don't need another Minimoog emulation even if it is polyphonic.
