Can't you just drag and drop the license to a hardware dongle, then drag it from that to the soft-elicenser on the other PC? Or does it prevent that?

I know if works that way for soft e-license to dongle, and dongle to dongle, but I haven't tried soft to dongle to soft

I think this might be the first time they're allowing soft-elicense for HALion btw.

You will also need to buy the Steinberg eLicenser dongle, if you haven't already got it.

That's not a problem. I already own and use Cubase as my main DAW and I use the dongle to store my license. But I've been waiting for HALion 5 to go on sale now for at least a year and it never did, unless I just missed it. In fact, since I've owned Cubase (2013) I don't recall Steinberg ever running a sale on anything. So I'm certainly not going to hold my breath on this one.
I think you had the possibility to buy it for a special price through the trial version that came with the installer DVDs in one fo the older versions (Cubase 6, if I'm not mistaken). I bought mine through the upgrade from HALion Sonic (which was also an upgrade from Hypersonic). It was a special promotion, and it as at a very good price, if I remember well.

I have several Steinberg products licensed by soft eLicenser on a computer, like Dark Planet, Padshop Pro and a couple more.

I wanted to move Padshop Pro to use on another computer. Contacted Steinberg about it, they told me that I can't just move Padshop Pro, I need to move all my Steinberg products. Even the soft eLiencer is tied to one computer, so I can't decide to share that between computers :help:

Luckily the dongle isn't that expensive, about half price of the iLOK so I think I will buy it one of these days.

Your best bet and cheapest route is to watch the online dealers dumping any previous versions (4 or 5). And then not installing it until 6 is released to get it under the grace period.
I've also noticed their 'sale time' is usually around Valentine's day. But what product(s) they choose to put on sale and how much they discount seems to have no set pattern. Generally anywhere from 20%-50%. Still, online dealers are apt to unload their stock at around 50%.

Yes you can do that.
Did you misunderstand my post?

You can't do that if you haven't got the dongle.

As I already said, they do.. They tend be brief though, and they happen at times which aren't necessarily when you'd think about sales (Valetines day was one of them, or it might relate to some event they've attended), and they are rare for their larger software items. I think they went about 18 months between the times when they offered Groove Agent on sale, for example. For a new HALion, I'd expect you'd wait a while.. year end if you're lucky.

How? Once moved to a dongle, the licenses aren't transferable to a soft eLicenser, are they? Or do you mean simply plugging in the USB licenser to another computer?

I had thought Halion wasn't long for this world, but this latest installment has piqued my curiosity. Curious to see what EvilDragon thinks when/if he gets his hands on it...

I'm not sure if I'll get it. I need another sampler/synth like I need a hole in the head... :D

Yes indeed :) Though, actually, networked USB offers a work around even for that. Though it's rare, not well known about, and it still needs a dongle somewhere in the chain anyway. ;)

Yes, exactly my point. Too much hassle with the soft eLicenser. As the dongle doesn't cost more than €25 I think I will buy it. Then I can use Steinberg products easily on any computer I wish to install them on.

I want it because it's shiny and new. Do I need it? Nope
