i incidentally encountered a sound i thought it would be nice to analyse,
armed with one very generic realtek equipped netbook, a usb audio card, a decent preamp and selection of decent mics and some convenient 1/8" battery powered mics,
it took me about 45 minutes to wrangle a rudimentary signal to wav.
eg. the wonderful freeware wavosaur would often (but not predictably) record one wavefile then be unable to find audio card, requiring app close and restart. if the "there's a new version!" message box appeared, then generally the first attempt to record would be defeated in this manner. so i attempted to record in synthedit, which of course required closing and opening another app to view the wavefile. on and on with similar complications, darting about the tiny screen with the touch pointer.
when you get old, your body starts to fall apart. i only have so many "pointer actions" left in my days.
you know that, right. because if you don't, i'd say, it's important to think about it beforehand.
it's been a long time now since i had a studio arrangement, which i enjoyed from humble to relatively lavish venues for two decades before the decade since where circumstances have prevented such facilities.
i only wanted a rough recording (low Hz), not a work of art.
it's 2017, and i reflected that i've spent most of my life struggling to achieve a rudimentary result and watched countless others go through the same process.
the reason for this is that "competition" is not a "model for healthy economic growth" as it is a way of "surviving" by forcing detriment upon the hapless, which is all of us at one stage or another of capitalism, whether you're trying to record a wav, feed your family, or find yourself stuck on the side of the road.
"xoxos" because of that nice 1970's bbc test card with noughts and crosses.
i always thought, cooperation was a much more effective paradigm for actually improving human lifes, instead of stabbing each other up the ass, and contributing to the normal of an aggressive, inconsiderate mileu devoid of compassion or comprehension of systems.
a few weeks ago in the dc, someone said they'd like to see me at namm. "i know" about many of the people in the industry and from a knowledgeable perspective, namm or similar events would present an endless parade of fiends.
i am concerned that i would be morally obliged to physically incapacitate many of the persons one would encounter during such an event, to save innocent humans from their predations.
while that might not seem very friendly, neither is finding yourself spending 45 minutes to accomplish the simple task of recording *a* signal, not even a very good one. because we sell things to each other, instead of cooperate, so who cares if all of this stuff actually works together or not. the detriment of this dynamic will, at some time or another, make its presence in your posterior cavity known, whatever your vantage upon it.
part of my socialist indoctrination in 1970's uk was the allegory that heaven and hell are the same place: a table filled with every food imaginable, and the diners are equipped with 10 ft. chopsticks. in hell they stab each others eyes out trying to gobble anything, in heaven they feed each other.
the reason why one happens and not the other is due to implementation, despite the obvious advantage to cooperation, our society is not in an arbitrary state (that its citizens have no perspective on) it is the result of intent, and i have the dubious privilege of the intenders having revealed themselves to me. doesn't matter, no one will ever believe me, even though in every stuff and substance of society, it is glaringly obvious that our attention (being the pinnacle of our perception, being and eventuality) is the real commodity in this society.
there are people who are functionally evil, who intentfully validate harm to others. furthermore, they, actually, do see the value of cooperation and utilise it to further this objective. but most people, apparently, they think entertainment, is just great.
so it's 2017 and 45 minutes to get a line.
i won't be seeing anyone at namm but it's doubtful that i'll see a lot of people anywhere, or that there would really be anything there to see. maybe a few mercy drips of novelty or progress, mostly just people trying to sell things or keep other people ignorant and dependent on culture to be dispensed by others.
for instance, to illustrate, get this,
california,
california, mind you,
electronic musicians,
audio dsp,
and you are talking about a *beer*

The problem witn being convinced of a "truth" is that you can't see the missing holes.

Software can often be irritating. If you enable external storage on some android versions not only you say goodbye to some of your data but it is impossible to turn it off without making an hard reset to the factory defaults- this time losing everything. Who has forgotten to test this scenario? Google obviously. Was the cause lack of cooperation? No. It's just a single company and a single product. It just isn't a cool feature to bother about so even if they have probably fixed it in some later version I have switched to windows phone and transferring the list of contacts took several hours because it's just another uncool feature for which nobody really cared much. You know software is boring and if developers do not expect to get bored a bit while they work they won't be producing anything reliable. This has nothing to do with cooperation or this or that economical system.
