HI , I'm using cm muzys and just working through a tutorial, one problem I get though is that periodicaly the playback slows right down and I get choppy distorted playback, then I have to restart in order to get it to work correctly. Whats going on?

I have an xp2400 with 512 meg ram, sblive with kx asio drivers set to 10 ms,

Any help would be great, its a neat little program.

oh and does anybody know how to get the note lengths consistent when your drawing them, so like you always get an exact note like a 16th and not something like a 128 , or something inbetween! :help:

Although I would think 10ms shouldn't be out of the ballpark for your SBLive on a computer with your spec, it DOES sounds to me like your buffer's not big enough; and increasing the buffer will increase latency.

I'm not 100% about that, but I can tell you that what you're describing is 98% of the time hardware-related and isn't likely something that can be changed by the settings within CMuzys.

Do you get the problem if you mixdown to file?

And what do you mean by "periodically" - do you mean "at completely random times" (i.e. not periodically ;-) ) or, for example, "every time it plays bars 7 through 23"? You need to think whether there's anything happening when the slowdowns happen that was the same as the last time it happened.

The other question is: what other software are you running? If you're running something that regularly checks the internet or internal network, this could slow your machine down - but I'd expect this to cause drop outs rather than a "slow down". (Of course, that begs the question - what did you mean by "slow down"? :-) )

Thanks for the help guys!
Well it didn't happen during mixdown and I'm able to play the mixdown outside of muzys without any problems.I don't know if that was what you meant pljones.
And no it doesn't happen "periodically" , I can't really pin it down right now. The sound gets choppy and playback slows when I move around a vst gui, but just a little, but it recovers from that. The cpu level is at around 10-17% and the ram usage is minimal. And I can play through a song multiple times with no problems
I do have too many programs running in the background I don't really have a DAW set up here  I have antivirus , firewall ,msi pcAlert, winpatrol, and a pile o junk under "processes" , i gotta clean that up.
Drop outs hhmm, when i say playback slows down I mean the tempo actually drops, and the sound stutters, like the cpu is overloaded but its not from what I can see. and the sound gets all distorted. And eventually it gets so bogged down that it can't recover , but then I can save what I was doing and restart
So I'll keep watching it and try to find a consistency in the problem, and try to reduce the background programs and processes.
I wish there was a smiley face with a thumbs up a la agent cooper off twin peaks :)

:o That was alot things to have in the background for a music machine...
Well what kind of chipset is there on your motherboard? Is it Via or Nvidia?
& have you downloaded the latest drivers for your motherboard?

Theres is also a issue with kx drivers & acpi on some systems....

well problem solved, I purchased 2x512 sticks of crucial ddr3200. Now I can be as wastefull as I want to be  I can run seti and any other garbage that finds its way into my memory with no glitches. I did however create a seperate windows install and will tweak it just for music...some day
I can't wait for the big muzys(or whatever its become) announcement :hyper:
