I'd put my Carvin up sound wise against anything you have tm.

I'm sure it's a fine guitar. I've played carvin's though way back when and I found them of excellent quality. I just didn't bond with the tone.

I don't care if you bond with the tone. They are not static. It's not like they all sound the same. Frankly, I wouldn't have a variax if you gave it to me. But, to each their own.

well, we all like what we like, and that's part of what makes this thread so amazing.

"The amazing guitar thread" (brought to you by DEBT. Make DEBT a permanent part of your life) :hihi:

(actually, I'm just about finished with the GC card and the MF has been paid off for a while :) )

If this was the same quality as my truck stop sush ... I mean, MIM basses, I'd love one:

despite not having any credit, i did manage to churn my share of gear over the past year or so. it's an expensive hobby, 'buying/selling' guitars.

that bass looks tight...

not buying any more unless something truly spectacular rocks up. Still waiting for the Ormsby Goliath..

Gibson SG Zoot Suit would definitely grab my attention.
I'm tired of being insane. I'm going outsane for some fresh air.

I really does, and it's very low priced being MIM. Likely won't get it, but want it. The vids on youtube sound very good with players that aren't much better than myself :)

I stopped buying gear with credit back in 94. If I don't have the cash then I don't buy. If I want something bad enough I'll save for it.

Cool. But having a card is awesome. Fact: unless you are grossly negligent and don't pay off before the balance is due, they are a handy cheat sheet (I'm not talking about visa/MC/discovery, you're f**ked using those to make payments). You budget in the payment, make certain it's paid off before the "balance" is due (and send the payments in pronto, don't until the last minute) and it's harmless.

Everyone is different. I've always been really responsible with my bills and have a fantastic credit score.

Actually I had a studio back in 1990. Put all of my money and then some into it. The business collapsed in 97, While I was able to keep up on payments and pay it most of the way down. I fell upon hard times and had to make career choices as there was no way to move up or make up the difference.
I have several friends who lost their homes and their credit due to the bust in 2008. What's more many at that same time lost good paying jobs and never got back into that field.

You may be entirely able to pay off the debt and have the most secure job in the world that allows you to do just that. The rest of the world.... not so much.

sometimes i wonder if having a lot of money would change my tastes in guitars. (not that anybody here has boatloads of money).

the one really expensive guitar which interests me is the uli roth, sky guitar. that's 10 grand.

in the meantime, i like the guitars in my 'budget range'... mid-level ibanez, lower level G&L, then all of the $50-$200 guitars which are everywhere these days. anyway, these guitars are fun, but they're also not a huge financial stake.

there's no doubt that, financially at least, times are hard for a great many of us. here's hoping for good times ahead for everyone.

The thing that bugs me is that "expensive" doesn't mean "quality" anymore. All those MM's I tried. I fell in love with every single one of them, then, FATAL FLAW. No two fatal flaws were the same.

So other than Carvin, I'm doing truck stop sushi mostly.

Carvin has a thing going with hipshot for a new kinda trem. Other than the mentioning of it at Namm, can't find any vids/images.

Apparently it doesn't use knife-edges, not sure if it's gonna be ace or crap. Time will tell.
