Logic Pro X question

I have a collection or Logic 7 and Logic 9 files and recently purchased Logic Pro X. I'm able to open the Logic 7 files without having to save a new project first, which is handy for auditioning which project I want to work on before having to save/delete the project afterwards. I do this in Logic 9 all the time. However, with Logic Pro X, it makes me save a new version before I can even play it back. Is there a way of changing Logic Pro X's behavior when opening v9 files so that it handles them like V7? Seems kind of inconsistent to say the least.
