Hi there. I have a question. If I buy Halion 5 today and will activate it in few days (there is possibility that it could be after Halion 6 release date) if i'll get a free update too?

Yes, but activate it after v6 is released - Steinberg may find a reason to delay the release, and then you're snookered.moozaw wrote:Hi there. I have a question. So if I'll activate my H5 after H6 realase date I'll get the free update..so what is the difference if I activate it today, in a week or after H6 release - all of this options are after 29 Dec...Googly Smythe wrote:Yes, but activate it after v6 is released - Steinberg may find a reason to delay the release, and then you're snookered.moozaw wrote:Hi there. HALion 5 is great. A bit complicated to get into, but it is extremely versatile.
I hope HALion 6's way of handling wavetables is easy to use.
And. It. Can. Sample! Yes. A sampler that can actually sample... even automated sampling using thresholds.
A dream come true for those of us using hardware. Sampling instruments from eurorack and also making wavetables from it. Holy cow, I beg for it to be good.

If you are confident that v6 will be released on the 9th, then go ahead. Me, I'd wait until it is actually released.moozaw wrote:So if I'll activate my H5 after H6 realase date I'll get the free update..so what is the difference if I activate it today, in a week or after H6 release - all of this options are after 29 Dec...Googly Smythe wrote:Yes, but activate it after v6 is released - Steinberg may find a reason to delay the release, and then you're snookered.moozaw wrote:Hi there. Well..I'm not sure about this... but the grace period is since 29th Dec...and there is no "end of" grace period so as I see it every H5 user that activate it after 29th Dec 2016 will get the update no metter how long it was after, yes? So no metter if there will be and how long delay with H6 release date it is all after 29th Dec...Am I right? Sorry I'm confused about this...Googly Smythe wrote:If you are confident that v6 will be released on the 9th, then go ahead. Can anyone tell me what happens when you buy a cross-grade? Do you keep your license / product that is eligible for cross-grade purchasing (Steinberg POV: better to sell you something for reduced price than nothing at all). Or do you loose your license?

How the heck could Steinberg make you lose a Kontakt license? They don't have any control over others vendors. If you have a competing product, you get a discount. That's all.Rommelaar wrote:Can anyone tell me what happens when you buy a cross-grade? If for any reason Steinberg puts back the release date of v6 (and I doubt it!) they may push back the grace period. Where do you stand then? I don't know, so I would wait before activating.moozaw wrote:Well..I'm not sure about this... but the grace period is since 29th Dec...and there is no "end of" grace period so as I see it every H5 user that activate it after 29th Dec 2016 will get the update no metter how long it was after, yes? I think you are just being paranoid. If, for any reason, Steinberg would postpone the release of HALion (which is highly unlikely), they would not "push back" the grace period, since it is already announced. Theoretically, they could, but that would mean very bad publicity, and even break of contract, since ANYONE that buy HALion 5 since that date has already a right to HALion 6 for free - THEY gave the buyers that right. I'm not a lawyer, but I think that even legally, they cannot take that back. The grace period is established, and for good.Googly Smythe wrote: If for any reason Steinberg puts back the release date of v6 (and I doubt it!) they may push back the grace period. Anyway, we are talking about Steinberg here. I don't remember they EVER postponed a release date.

I can't imagine them going back on their announced grace period date.

Yep. You're fine to activate HALion 5 now. In all likelihood it will place a HALion 6 license in your eLicenser account if you activate today.moozaw wrote:So if I'll activate my H5 after H6 realase date I'll get the free update..so what is the difference if I activate it today, in a week or after H6 release - all of this options are after 29 Dec...
The only potential inconvenience activating during a "grace period" can cause is, if you activate before they make the change over on the elicenser servers, it will not auto-upgrade the HALion license.
Ie It could place a HALion 5 license on the dongle. This would then require you contact Steinberg customer service with details of your account & activation date, in order to get someone to manually issue your HALion 6 license.
However, Steinberg typically have new product licenses available (on the elicenser server) many weeks ahead of the release date, and frequently even before they make public announcements about a new product (It's often the first source of info that a new product is coming)
So I expect they're already issuing HALion 6 licenses when you input a v5 registration code. If you want to be 1000% sure ask Steinberg for confirmation it's doing this before you input the code. But you'll be ok either way.
