Synthmaster One?

Never really understood why, but Synthmaster as a whole has always been ridiculously loud. When I was designing sounds for the Song Contest, I had to turn down both the Master AND Layer volume to almost minimum to get the volume at a reasonable level.

Boost makes them even louder. I don't think Synthmaster compensates for volume increase when Unison is on or when using distortion, ensemble, and other voice multiplying effects. Which is fine, but then you need to have a good grasp of gain staging designing patches and that can be a chore.

And I'm sure outboard limiters are in frequent use esp during beta periods, plus louder == better anyway...
. Over the years i've noticed it can be a bit of a crapshoot... in the end I like to tweak osc balance and fx returns anyway... usually the first thing I do when looking for just the right patch to start with.
You need to limit that rez, bro.

As for loud presets, I havent normalized the levels yet folks. Once I receive all the remaining presets, I'll do that. We also noticed during the NAMM Show that especially Nori Ubukata presets are very loud!
BTW, we have a compressor effect, but I dont know how effectively our designers used that.

The problem is DAW lvl usually in my experience. In FL, for example, when doing SD I will add the synth instance, and then max the volume in the step seq area, and then design the sound to be -2 to -1 dB... which then = no clip and nice vol in Cubase, Reaper, Sonar etc etc... I don't think all SDs (not saying Nori of course, he knows his stuff) check their patches in other DAWs.
That though is Re presets being too soft usually. Too loud? Beats me

I always normalize using Reaper. for poly sounds I press a 3 note chord. I also double check opening and closing the mod wheel.

Yep. Right now we have an internal editor written with .net framework on Windows, we'll port that to VSTGUI/iOS :egbert101 wrote:Would be nice if there was an easier way to build wavetables, like a built in editor. Maybe in Synthmaster Three?

Thanks, mine was already set to never but I'm still getting the "Latest News from KV331 Audio" on the Browser page. Clicking on any of those entries will open up my web browser.

Had a quick play with the demo this morning. Very nice
I really like the overall sound character, and the UI is a great balance of power vs accessibility. I can see this getting a lot of use in my scoring work. Should sit well in the mix alongside Zebra, which is my current go-to.
A couple of questions:
- Any chance of implementing arrow key functionality in the patch browser? I'd love to be able to arrow up-down through the presets list for quick auditioning
- Is the AAX version going to be available on release? The installer listed AAX for Pro Tools 10 and up, but I didn't see it in my plugin folder after installation (PT12.3/Win7 Pro).
- I'll second the comments about loud presets. Great sounds but some of these are scorchingly hot!
Looking forward to the full release
