Electronic music has been growing up for decades, the most interesting music will always be from small scenes or niche artists, people who just make music regardless of trends.. There was a split long ago, with the more pop-oriented and instantly gratifying music going one way, and then the rest of the electronic music scenes operating largely business as usual for the past 20+ years incorporating changes but never really changing that much. I've never really been interested in the mainstream because I've always found the sounds in most commercial viable EDM to be really grating and annoying, the melodies too simple, too many breakdowns or emphasis on 'the drop' and buildups.. I guess it's good for shows but doesn't make very interesting listening.
exactly

it's kids music really.
riffs, and big grating sounds.
not much dancing or groove going on though... SO ANNOYING really.
it's a tender subject for me, cos out of the fabillion styles of 'electronic music' that I enjoy, in the town i live in, there is ONLY EDM. If you look around in the club, nobody is actually enjoying it, until they're totally shitfaced then the "whoops" come staggering out... but if nobody enjoys it till they're drunk, what is the value!!? The DJs all use MP3s too, which is just unbearable for me. Hence, I am considered the "negative guy", who is rolling his eyes every other minute, using any excuse I can to get the f**k out of there.

I like EDM. I don't like the ridiculous snob-0-rama that it's anything other than a few samples and a 4/4 beat at virtually the same tempo (with autotune, and ripped off other songs)

But it's better than rap :hihi:

Oh really

I wondered why Madonna jumped on the EDM wagon back in '98

But who decides?

Anyway, all music is crap.

Except for the music I like... :D

When people grow up, they want to listen to more chill out music.

First wave of acid house/techno '87-88 grew up around '93-95, so those were years of great ambient-techno releases.

Goa techno/psy-trance of the mid-90's grew up at start of the millennium, alongside the trance heads of the late 90's, so 2000-2005 was a great period for psychill/chill out releases.

So if EDM is growing up now, there will a lot more focus on downtempo releases.

It's still a good time for psychill releases.. funny you mention all those genres tho, ambient techno and goa trance are two of my absolute favorites..

fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science.
