The Answer I think is to Install the 32bit version of Cubase alongside the 64bit (Works great for me).

EDIT: Downside is you have to manage 32 and 64 bit plugs (I separate them in different folders), and make sure you keep to native effects, or download ones with 32bit support.

Other than that, I think you'll be just fine Wags

Still puzzled why it wont work.
The ridiculous thing is: I run 64 bit Linux and windows 32 bit plugins work fine. Even better, the DAW thinks they are native linux plugins. Now that's some clever programming done by Panthom Code : https://github.com/phantom-code/airwave/releases

I do have a Windows machine with Ardour but I don't use any 32 bit plugins on that system so I can't advice you how to solve your 32 bit problem.

I think it's time for a : "Help Wags run 32 bit plugins" thread
The problem is simple. I use Cubase. It's bridge sucks and JBridge doesn't work all the time. For some things (The recent RMI Piano and Pro Soloist) that are simple, JBridge works fine. For the more complex synths, not so much. Stability is so-so and can crash at any time. Some don't even load.

It's not really a big deal. There are very few 32 bit VSTs that I really miss. Mostly the HG Fortune stuff. He was a genius.

I do miss X11. That was one amazing piece of machinery. Anybody who has used it knows what I'm talking about. I could get lost in that for hours. But it was so unstable that I had to finally get rid of it. MuLab doesn't even recognize it as a VST for either the 64 or 32 bit version of the DAW.

Probably will work. I just have no clue how to do it. I get dizzy enough keeping track of one Cubase installation. Two will totally drive me batty. lol.

It's been a while so I don't know. I'll re-download Cubase, and install the 32bit, and tell you how it works. It should be very straight forward.

I may have one additional problem. I'm still on Cubase 7. I don't know if they have that download archived because they're up to 9. If not, I'm kind of out of luck.

They have most versions available. Even sx1! https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/un ... _sx_1.html

Cool BJ.

Now, I only see one installer. So I assume if I download that one installer and run it, it'll give me the option of JUST installing the 32 bit version and won't overwrite my 64 bit version?

Yup. Here's the Cubase 7 Installation screen (just tested it):

After that, you can pick the folder:

Cool. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. This way, I can use it for 32 bit vSTs for the OSC that I've had to opt out of.

Thanks for your help BJ. You're the best.

I think you were making real progress with your OSC tracks.
I don't like you missing out on OSC, just because of 32 bit compatibility problems.

+1 :tu:

btw, need to read up on your Prog Rock thread; will do when I have time.

.... don't want to disturb a discussion ....
if we are looking for a new Synth in the OSC, look here:

but it's only for win-users ...

Nah no disturbing at all, 100% on topic. Which synth in particular do you like most out of that pack?

You just read my mind .. it's scary
These are the ones I had in mind all the time (read a bit back in the forum)
kbrown says he's not a real developer but he's very quick to resolve issues.

Wags mentiond the H.G Fortune stuff. Always heard that his synths are really good.
Did we do one from him yet?

No, but I've been wanting to. Which HG synth do you guys think fits best with the OSC?

That they are vastly superior to Linux ones? :troll:
  • We all know that Windows is just a set of poorly designed device drivers but somehow got popular. It's like the VHS of computing.
Popular platforms attract the most developers hence the vast amount of software for windows. That's why there are very few viruses for Mac and Linux.
I actually like Windows 10. And use it on a regular basis.
  • Mac OSX is just BSD with a nice shell, sold in overpriced hardware. It's very well done, I admit that.
Sadly our gorgeous iMac broke and couldn't be repaired. My wife misses it everyday. Told her she should buy a new one but she wants to save money.
  • Linux is the true OS.
When you install it, be very careful not to wipe the original install of windows or mac. You paid for these, don't wanna throw money away. The installer says it will install next to the other OS but you never know.
Even though in a live-usb session the wifi, graphicscard, soundcard etc worked out of the box, there's no guarantee it will actually work when it's installed on your harddrive.
Sell your plugins, they won't work anymore. Well you can install wine, a windows compatibility layer and they probably work fine .. but why don't you use windows then ?
Good luck getting jackd to work.
When (if???) you finally get it to work, save your session every 3 seconds. Because, yes, crashes will happen, even locking up your pc. Destroying sessions.
For me, on the other hand it works like a charm. Use linux all the time. Love it :ud:
Frostline wrote: Personally I would prefer more inclusive choices just because I enjoy listening to what some of the Apple users come up with. :phones:

But I understand if that isn't always possible.
Totally agree, but it looks like we are running out of cross platform synths.
From the top of my head some cross platform
https://the-synister.github.io/
https://bsutherland.github.io/JuceOPLVSTi/

Both are JUCE based synths, I think all Juce based plugins can be compiled for linux. I did with Synister and JuceOPLVSTi.

Sorry for the long post.
