Wow...just wow.
Oh well, that's $350 I won't have to spend.
Thanks Steinberg. You just saved me a lot of money.

Even despite forced installs and other nasty tactics, trying to ram Windows 10 down peoples throats, Windows 10 market share is approx 28%, as measured by browser usage, which is a more reliable metric than Microsoft's own inflated numbers.EvilDragon wrote:W7 is dead, and for good after MS cutting off all support in 2020. You probably won't even be able to install H6 on it, because of some prerequisites. Live with it.
Windows 7 usage share is still above 40%. Windows 8.1 is below 8%, which is less than Windows XP.
The "40%" usage number is likely to be higher (over 50%) for DAW users than general browser users, as DAW users do not wish to deal with the specific annoyances of Windows 10 such as forced reboots, forced configs, forced drivers, as well as the audio specific performance hits that Windows 10 brings.
These performance hits are according to Steinberg themselves, and were announced in their own Restone compatibility testing for Windows 10.
Of course, they still support Windows 7 with Cubase 9. Why? Because Steinberg know the numbers. If they think they can gently "bump" a very large percentage of their users off Windows 7 by dropping it via the back door with products like HALion 6, think again Steinberg! Windows 10 is NOT a "normal" Windows upgrade, and there's going to be a hell of a lot more holding out than there was even in the days of XP..
Their choice.. but I hope they enjoy their reduced sales numbers as a result.
BTW, even though I also use a Mac OS version that qualifies, I don't consider the changes to be worth the $100/ £80 upgrade fee from HALion 5, so I wouldn't have "upgraded" anyway. These set £80 upgrade fees, every time, are taking the Mickey.
You might see a lot more talk about HALion 6 on forums, but it'll be purely because it gets warezed due to soft-elicenser, not because of their actual sales numbers.
I'm happier to put the money I save into moving more things back OTB..

Just went to the Steinberg forum. They are reconsidering testing for Win 7 and will have their final determination in a few days.
In the meantime, I made sure I gave them a piece of my mind the old Wagtunes way.
it felt good to tell them what idiots they are.

Indeed, this wasn't something I was expecting. Just a couple a months ago, they released the new version of their flagship product with support for Windows 7. Now they are launching a new version of a virtual instrument, and they dropped support of Windows 7?
They can't be serious. I bought it anyway, since I also have Windows 10 installed, but I hope they reconsider and launch an update with support for Windows 7 really quick

There is not gonna be any major updates to Windows 7, now that mainstream support is over, and there is less than three years left of life in it, before it joins XP in that heaven where OS goes when they die.
So this means it should not be difficult for Steinberg to support Windows 7, as long as it works now, it will most probably work two years down the road as well.

I presume, as is usually the case, that 'lack of support' doesn't necessarily mean it won't work? eg NI don't officially support NI Kore 2 on Mac since Sierra but it still does work, the only problem is you have to circumvent SIP temporarily to get the installer to run.

My thinking too, I would be amazed if it don't work on Win7, but they aint gonna help out users on that platform, so demo well before purchasing.aMUSEd wrote:I presume, as is usually the case, that 'lack of support' doesn't necessarily mean it won't work?

Have to agree with that - listening to demos today.bronxsound wrote:the voiceover in the vids is effin annoying.
also brass and strings instruments sound like a joke.
Hot brass or what it was called - any stock brass patch of a synth do better, almost.
But all vendors are not so good in making demos - it could be that, product is better than demos suggest. And style of playing did imply not having a clue how brass sounds or is played.

Whose gonna buy a product just from viewing a product vid ?
Testing out the demo is what it is about.

I've just been reading the new manual - can it be true that you still can't modulate loop points in Halion? The mod matrix options look pretty much the same as Halion 5, perhaps I'm missing something.
Also, anyone know if they've fixed the shonky slicer? Never seemed to manage to get a slice point right, always had to manually adjust everything.

Does this install on top of the existing HS5 library or replace it? Just wondering about what happens to Auron for example and to my own and third party presets?

Apparently, it installs on top. It updates the HALion 5 content, and adds the HALion 6 specific content (at least, that's what the installer is reporting now).aMUSEd wrote:Does this install on top of the existing HS5 library or replace it? And installation was concluded, and HALion 6 opened in Windows 7 without any questions. Now, it's time to check the content, and perform some tests, and then firing some DAW hosts and see how it behaves there.
But for now, it installed, and the standalone opened without any questions. Windows 7 x64.
Regarding user presets, AFAIK they don't go into the main VST Content (where are the "vstsound" files), do they?
