Is there a DAW that has a pattern based workflow that will let you assign the patterns to MIDI notes?
FL Studio 11 used to do it. 12 now has the performance mode (super convoluted) & that is not what I want.
I currently use Phrazor for this now, but that is discontinued and is only 32 bit.
MPC Software & Maschine does it, but you need to buy the hardware.
Any other suggestions?

In Live's session view you can trigger audio and midi clips using a midi keyboard or your QWERTY keyboard ...

You can also use Launchpad, Push or APC control surfaces (like Maschine).

Sonar has the Matrix View, that works pretty much like Ableton's Session. You can load a cell grid with audio, midi or step sequencer loops, and trigger them with a controller. As of the last update, you can also edit them directly in place although you cannot record directly to a cell yet.
