Steinberg HALion 6 & HALion Sonic 3

I finished installation in Windows 10, and everything loaded perfectly. I checked the Content folder, and it seems there are files there there were missing in the Windows 7 (I installed in a different folder exactly to check that). I will try to manually move thse to the folder pointed by HALion in Windows 7, to see if that solves the loading problem - it probably will).
There were no complaints about the old files that were missing in Windows 7, which confirms my suspects that there must be some legacy files I had in there, remaining from previous installations. Let's hope that I will not miss them - probably I won't, but we never know, since the file names are cryptic, and we cannot know exactly what's in there.
Curiously enough, it didn't uninstall HALion 5 in Windows 10 (I think it did that in Windows 7). However, I still cannot launch HALion 5. I already filled the ticket to Steinberg about the license. Let's see what they have to say about it, but I will not accept being unable to run HALion 5. I upgraded my license, I think I am entitled to run older version, if I want.

Yep, I'd bet it deleted the 32 bit license rights, which also removed the rights to run Hypersonic 2. Curious how they'll fix this without having to reissue licenses. Obvious point.. Did you try the "license repair" menu option already? (I'm guessing yes and I missed it)fmr wrote:HALion 6 license HAS to be messed. Precisely because HALion 6 isn't supporting older OS versions, that's another reason for the license to allow to run older versions. I already filled a ticket to Steinberg about this.
Don't have them here. Strange that it would delete those old trial files, rather than just leave them.BTW: During the installation and uninstallation in Windows 7, I apparently lost two files from the HALion content I had installed. They are the FCP_SMT_108_HAL_VST3_Presets_Trial.vstsound and the FCP_SMP_107_HAL_Trial.vstsound
HALion installers have always been pretty bad about sticking files in multiple different locations, then not overwriting something with the correct version etc.
I got fed up with the multiple directory stuff pretty early, so I moved all the files into the same dir after an install, and left shortcut pointers (they must have the exact same file name, except for being a shortcut) in the various directories, so everything was then in one place.
Much easier to see what's going on when you do that, especially if you create separate dirs for presets and sound files. Also easier to drag and drop, from the HALion installers unpacked dir, if ever you need to install a new version. Easiest way to ensure those latest files are all installed, rather than what's been a rather hit-and-miss experience with the installer, at least for v4 and 5..

I am not running Hypersonic 2 anymore (I too started from there, then upgraded to HALion Sonic 2, then HALion 4, then 5, now HALion 6). What I can say is that HALion 6 license, in the current satus, deletes any trace of previous licenses that came before it.Gucky wrote:I own Halionsonic 2 and Hypersonic 2. I like both.
I want to upgrade to Halionsonic 3. But I want to keep Hypersonic 2.
I am a little bit unsure about the comments in this thread to that theme.
So my question: Can anybody confirm that I still have the license of Hypersonic 2 after the upgrade to Halionsonic 3?
Or does Hypersonic 2 not work after the upgrade?
Many thanks for your help!
Probably, it's better for you to open a ticket to support in My Steinberg with that question. The more people that raise this question the better. I feel that they should have preserved the information of all the previous licenses that were upgraded, like they do with Cubase and Wavelab.

Yes, I'm doing this now also in Windows 10. The vstsound content installers are a real mess, with files spreaded all over, and some duplicates here and there.PAK wrote: I got fed up with the multiple directory stuff pretty early, so I moved all the files into the same dir after an install, and left shortcut pointers (they must have the exact same file name, except for being a shortcut) in the various directories, so everything was then in one place.

I am not sure if it wasn't me that uninstalled, because before installing HALion 6 I did some cleanup (exactly because of the mess you described), and uninstalled previous versions (that's why probably it wasn't HALion 6 installer that uninstalled HALion 5, but me, in fact) because I was convinced that HALion 6 would install everything that was there. Apparently, it doesn't. But what is strange is that, if I really did uninstall them, how does HALion 6 "knows" they should be there?
In WIndows 10, as I wrote above, there were no complaints, but the files aren't there either. Oh well, I have to keep searching though backups, to see if I can find them, or simply delete the register from HALion (I have the option to do that, but I didn't want to choose that before trying to restore the missing files)

Likely because it's finding and using the old content index file, and just adding the "new" content files to it when launched. Otherwise it'd also lose your star ratings data etc.fmr wrote:I am not sure if it wasn't me that uninstalled, because before installing HALion 6 I did some cleanup (exactly because of the mess you described), and uninstalled previous versions (that's why probably it wasn't HALion 6 installed that uninstall HALion 5, but me, in fact) because I was convinced that HALion 6 would install everything that was there. They're clearly marked trial so they'll be safe to delete, content wise. Of course, if you maybe have a project which references them, that might be a different matter in terms of wanting to keep them there. Looks like you might have to download the old trial
Well, if you ever get them all in one dir, you'll see the numbering order, and start to wonder what the missing numbers areIn WIndows 10, and I wrote above, there were no complaints, but the files aren't there either. I think they are from HAlion 5 trial, because I remember to have downloaded the trial, since there wasn't an installer to HALion 5 available when I upgraded from HALion 4.PAK wrote: They're clearly marked trial so they'll be safe to delete, content wise. Of course, I can no longer download the HAlion 5 trial, and I don't have that installer anymore either.

I'm confused - does Halion 6 delete/stop Halion 5? That's one of the main things stopping me from purchasing the upgrade, that coupled with not being that sure how much its really been upgraded.

HALion 6 upgrades HALion 5. Once you install it, there is no more HALion 5. You can't run them side by side.monomaker wrote:I'm confused - does Halion 6 delete/stop Halion 5? Thanks! I really can't decide, this version seems to of just bolted on the Wavetable stuff and some more sample banks I'll never use, but doesn't upgrade core functionality much. None of my biggest issues look like they've been addressed : poor microtuning support, limited looping functionality, inaccurate slicer, limited mod matrix options. I assume some of these could be solved with scripting. The sampling section looks like a real improvement, but that's not a big deal to me (you can always record and cut things up in the DAW).wagtunes wrote: HALion 6 upgrades HALion 5. The upgrade is tempting, maybe I'll dedicate more time to Falcon instead. One more read of the manual.

Actually, you can (at least the standalones and the 32-bit HALion 5). The problem now resides in the license. The license that came for HALion 6 does NOT allow running previous versions. But, at least judging from the first reply I got from Steinberg, this wasn't supposed to be like that, so, I'm waiting for them to sort out the problem.wagtunes wrote:HALion 6 upgrades HALion 5.
