Your biggest Dead-End Spend & why

You've probably blown big bucks on music gear and somehow found out too late it was a big waste of money for you.
I spent big on Sonar Platinum - and 3 Heavyocity's - and never liked them - in spite of the promise.
Maybe it was my fault. Probably. I admit it.
I'm not whinging, just accepting that sometimes I get it all wrong in a big way.
Where have you spent big and never got a fraction of the promise you thought you were buying into?
What's your dead end spend?

probably all the time i've spent on kvr, endeavouring to engage the public with something people can learn and grow from, having to compete with all the people who would rather milk them, and all the incredible support from the loads of people who are aware of how that all works.
why, what did you spend loads of money on that you realised was a steamer and didn't spend your time talking about synthesis as if it could be accessible and useful to people?

you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Over the years I've been enticed the bi-weekly BOGOF sales from East West and bought Voices of Passion, RA, EW Gold / Silver, Ministry of Rock, StormDrum 3.
I think combined I've made 5 tracks using the libraries.

The first UB imac with the very expensive wogic pwoh (remember, a dongle within a dongle?
) was horrific.
Sorry, forgot to say why
It was WOEFULLY underpowered and I had fallen for the "mac is better" nonsense. That's about 4k gone forever.

I spend €85 on Alchemy second-hand, thinking it is a good deal, and that I thus will get a favourable low cut price offer to upgrade when Alchemy 2 ships.
But only 6 months later Camel Audio shuts down.
What a noob I can be

Sonar Platinum here as well. Also East-West libraries. Bought a lot of them. Never use any of them.

Too many to list .... But I don't hunt or fish or golf or race cars or do cocaine , so it's not the most expensive hobby lolz. .... Let me see here... the buying and selling of new and used guitars on the Internet or catalogs ... That is the biggest crap shoot of dead end spending that and DAW host hopping .....

Lightwave 3D, it was a couple grand at the time. The hardware dongle (parallel) died. Getting it replaced was such a hassle with Newtek, that I just gave up and wrote it off as a loss.

Sample libraries for Kontakt. Not they're not great.. i just dont use them. They take up a lot of space, and take a while to load. The more I get to learn about actually using the tools I have the more I find I dont need to keep filling up samplers with endless material.

easily Sonar, but that doesn't mean I regret it necessarily - 10 years ago I would have argued that Sonar is the most useful and future-proof daw just as easily as I now say that since then it got surpassed in every way by everyone.

Elektron Octatrack and Analog Rytm. unpacked 'em, turned 'em on, stuck 'em back in the box.
Still sat there, laughing at me.

Akai Z4.
Bought it brand new for gigging and used it on a total of ZERO gigs.
It just didn't float my boat.
And now it's an expensive doorstop.
EDIT: cost me $3,500 new IIRC.

could be worse - I paid full price, and brought pile of their sound libs for it - and to this day I haven't ended up using it one finished (or even near finished track).Numanoid wrote:I spend €85 on Alchemy second-hand, thinking it is a good deal, and that I thus will get a favourable low cut price offer to upgrade when Alchemy 2 ships.

And you can't resell them either, which sucks.Armadillo wrote:Over the years I've been enticed the bi-weekly BOGOF sales from East West and bought Voices of Passion, RA, EW Gold / Silver, Ministry of Rock, StormDrum 3.

Because there would be plenty of people willing to take them off of your hands, if you could.
