Anyone jumped ship / switched DAW this year?

Just about every DAW seems like a step backwards after using Logic on Mac. I was almost ready to give up doing music on the Surface Book until I discovered Bitwig. It was pricey in my opinion, but works great!

After many happy years with Acid Pro and Sound Forge, I began searching for a replacement a few years ago due to the hell that is the 2GB limit in 32bit land but instead of finding a new DAW, I found JBridge and embraced my obsolescence.
However, I have decided enough is enough and have gone full in on Bitwig (not sold on 2.0x yet) and a real overlooked diamond that gives consistent results and amazes me in the simplicity; Lurssen Mastering Suite.
I've been a decades long time dabbler with FL, Sonar, Reason/Record and Abelton, but I never felt compelled to hang up the Sonic Foundry pair till now.
So there's my story.

I jumped off FL12. Removing the repeat step sequencer function and taking away the per step modulators took away the fruitiness and made it fruitless. I rolled back to FL 11 initially but I spend almost all of my time with Renoise now.
It's not that Renoise is intuitive it is that it is so logical that it feels intuitive which is better. Also, it is very mature at v3.1. The devs must be independently wealthy or hippie anarchists because the upgrade payment cycle is long. It may never get to v4.
I see a trend where expensive MIDI controllers are driving DAW feature updates and that is a path I cannot currently financially justify. QWERTY till I die.

Switched almost 100% from FL to Studio One. Because workflow&interface. Now since I have S1, the only thing I see in FL is a chaotic mess. Confuses me more than ever.

No, I keep two handy, just in case one of them decides to turn against me.

Agree with the comments on FL12 here, I've never got on with it personally. Rolled back to 11 almost immediately after trying out 12. Maybe I am just stuck in my ways, but I felt like there was a lot of pointless GUI updates - which basically added nothing except for putting time onto my work flow. I've never fully enjoyed the FL mixer after learning a lot on Logic so I decided to start using Studio One as well. So no - I haven't exactly jumped ship so to speak, but I do the majority of my creative sound design in FL and then the bulk of the mixing and mastering in Studio One. A little convoluted maybe, but it works for me!

I'm almost only using Cubase now. Artist 9 is great in everything and I got used to most common shortcuts. I might upgrade to the full version when there is a discount.
I still like my other DAWs (Live, S1 and FLS), but no time is left for them after messing around with synthesis and improving the overall sound with effects (using mostly Waves various plugins) in Cubase.

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

@EnGee when do you expect such discounts to happen and how generous are they? I'm considering the same upgrade. ..
Thanks

From Cubase and Studio One.
My current DAW now is Sonar Platinum.
It is loaded with features
has ARA.
has 32/64 bit bride.
It is actively updated.
A bit concerned about stability.
I am however ready to jump ship if FLS Studio or Reaper get ARA. Unlikely!
Also waiting to see what Usine Hollyhock 3 and Waveform AKA T8 will offer.
An outside chance is Samplitude. Must review Mixcraft now that it has ARA.
Small possibility I may return to Studio One 3.
Not considering Cubase, Pro Tools, Live and Digital Performer.
I hope to make my final DAW decision this month.

There was 40% discount last year to the upgrade from Artist to Pro, but I don't remember when it was that exactly. I think it was around Easter time. Anyway, I have been checking and waiting for a long time, so I hope it won't take so long. I'm also checking almost everyday the news here and the bargains thread in the 2nd hand market (Sell & Buy forum).andy4trance wrote:@EnGee when do you expect such discounts to happen and how generous are they? Have gift license on my account for Cubase 5 LE and thinking to exploit it fully this year, my Macbook died on me few days ago, so there's that, Bitwig is so expensive, MuLab is not there yet, everything else is out of the question, so yeah.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

Well, I was on Ableton Live for studio and performance. Love the features, but the stability or seemingly random lack of can really detract from my creativity.
Luckily, I discovered and dove into learning the basics of Plogue Bidule. This is now my go to stage tool. It has been bullet proof so far!
I plan on making sounds and beats in Ableton and performing with custom Bidule environments.
