Over here its not that simple. Radio stations only get surveyed a few weeks a year and its all worked out based on that so if you happen to peak at the wrong time you could easily miss out. OTOH, if you get lucky you can earn money for old rope.
Its worked out by simply dividing up a pool of money so if your local performing rights association or whoever administers it is on the ball they can make you decent money.

I was taking to my publisher last week about this.... some plays on radio 1 can pay £214 a play.
