I'm going to try GHS Brite Flats on electric guitars, gauge 12-54 with wound G. After my bad experience with the EHX Key9 pedal, I'm going to try build a guitar that simply sounds like a Rhodes to begin with, starting with those strings.

Post

12 gauge... that's some chug/spank. i've been using 11s but am thinking of backing off to 10s... was stevie ray vaughn using 13 gauge?

Post

Yes, I think so. I think he was also tuning down a half step.

These won't have chug or spank because they're flatwounds, they'll mostly be only the fundamental tones without much harmonics. I'll tell you the full details when I'm done. It's going to be a weird and unique project, like a Rhodes piano guitar.

You mean like an LR Baggs Godin?
The acoustcasters and multilacs that followed paled in comparison to the original

Not really but that was awesome. I wish I could play like that.

I'm hoping this project guitar will be more like the keys in the background.

Two days ago I was in a local guitar store - http://musiccastle.com
Came across a new brand ... Vintage which is owned by Trevor Wilkinson of the famed Wilkinson parts.

Amazing sounding affordable guitars build right.

Some of you may know I'm a huge Clapton fan. Own everything he did back in the 60's and 70's on vinyl and 80's/90's in other formats.. Even owning his 80's signature strat w/ lace sensors. The V6 icon is the closest thing I've heard in my life to an actual.... Blackie.

I also checked out the tele's

And the LP's are not to shabby either.

Have to admit, me likey.

My cherry sunburst strat has a mint green pickguard with cream Noiseless pickups. It seems like such a weird combination but it works beautifully. The Noiseless neck and middle pickups are way too dead sounding but I adore the bridge pickup.

I'd like to see a pic of that

i'd like to have an entire guitar in mint. the seafoam is way cool, but the mint is very understated, elegant.

lol, yeah they are great kits.

I put this on my Tele

best thing I ever did.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I'm so happy, I had no idea. I'd have done it a long time ago

STILL haven't completely decided on the pickguard, my bday is next week so I'll wait until some likely suspects give me some cash :hihi:

And I hate to order one measly part from this place, but all I need now is that and ONE "volume" knob in aged white. Man, even as a kit those are hard to find right now :?

I wonder if I should get this:

It's turning out to be a bigger project than if I'd simply have ordered a "pre-wired" config, but not sure if.

They are "noiseless" pups so don't know if it's necessary.
