TBH, i'm convinced also that platform exclusive applications get more love than cross platform ones. People on Mac seem generally convinced of Logic, but, i read a lot of complaints about Studio One (sluggish performance), or Cubase (stability and performance). Of course, i'm not sure if that is a healthy display of the experiences of the average user, because, i know that on the net typically people voice their opinions who had a bad user experience, but, really seems to me as Logic would be a better bet than anything else on Mac. And that Cubase users on PC are generally pretty happy with that (except for the few usual suspects who don't miss a chance to rant about Steinberg, of course). So, Cubase may be an example of a DAW which, as it looks to me, may get a bit more love on PC than it does on Mac from the devs.

So basically you don't care which DAW we actually use, but only which cross platform DAW we would choose from the options you've preselected for us. If we disagree with these choices or use something which doesn't meet the criteria, our only options are to vote for something else or remain excluded from voting. It seems to me that this poll is full of bias intended to skew the results.BBFG# wrote:So I've purposely left off anything that is one platform only or only works full featured with their hardware.

Not sure, i was usually happy with cubase performance on mac for several years. Got off cubase at 6.5 tho. Actual comparisons would be interesting, but I doubt there is much of a difference regarding performance of cubase. I also worked with nuendo on mac quite a bit, wich also was performing just fine.
Also newer concepts for example bitwig also performs quite equally, since it is just the gui wich is java to be cross compatible. The actual performance relevant stuff is a mix of different languages. So i doubt there is such a big difference on how to handle cpu/ram etc between platforms. But I'm also not too involved into coding, so cannot really deliver facts here.

Of course it is... duh... the OP is shaping it to his own interests (as every poll ever made is). If it isn't for you, then pass. You have not been done wrong, your 'rights' violated or any other such.deastman wrote:So basically you don't care which DAW we actually use, but only which cross platform DAW we would choose from the options you've preselected for us. I was emagic Logic PC user originally. But the story is known! I tried for a short period for time running Hackintosh, but found it not that good idea due to the OS updates.
In short, if there is Logic for Windows that costs $200, I wouldn't touch anything else! So, why I didn't choose Mac then, because sacrificing Logic is easier than sacrificing PC/Windows flexibility (both) and price (hardware).

The idea being that DAWs that are machine specific should only be polled with others that are specific to the same machine to be truly non-biased. Otherwise, it really is just market trolling by the magazine for their advertisers.
And if you state 'other', then state what that cross-platform DAW is.
Easy to see many of those get minimal or no votes anyway.
Don't like the poll? Don't vote.

It's interesting to see Bitwig Studio Leading at this point.
Seems to be very popular here
Cubase is in Second Place, which is my primary DAW. Anyways.. I just purchased the Bitwig Studio 2 Upgrade from version 1, and curious to discover, and learn all the new features of BWS-2

He is a SONAR user, and as everyone should know, they are very insecure, they get very upset when SONAR isn't included in the list of 'Tested" DAW's by plugin devs for example, very upset when SONAR isn't listed in articles talking about the best DAW, or 'PRO quality DAW's' or not included in the conversation when talking about 'industry standard', lets face it, more often than not SONAR is left out of the conversation all together, and there are reasons for that, long standing reasons. To them SONAR has to be the best, and no dialogue will be entered into, everything Cakewalk makes, be it fx, synth or whatever is the best, and no dialogue will be entered into, the way SONAR does things and it's features are the best, superior to anything else, to them it's a fact and there will be no dispute allowed. (Go visit their forums, it's a hoot!!!) Their insecurity is easily seen through their knee jerk, blind defensiveness which occurs when someone dare bring up SONAR's issues or deficiencies etc, and the lengths they go topdxindy wrote:Of course it is... duh... the OP is shaping it to his own interests (as every poll ever made is). Of course most people know the truth, SONAR is buggy (all software has bugs . . but . . ) it is full of quirks, inconsistencies (copy/paste, and selection anyone) and idiosyncrasies, there are many many things that just don't work, or at least don't work as advertised or as they should, unexpected behavior is common place and expected (that's why there are no issues with SONAR, the unexpected is expected) it's full of workarounds for things that should work but don't work as they should, i mean I have never experienced anything that requires that sheer amount of workarounds for things that don't work as they should. I use to think that the abbreviation often used on the Cakewalk forums, 'CW', stood for Cakewalk, but apparently it doesn't, it's Complete Workaround
The reason so many of them think SONAR is stable etc, is because they are long time users, and have learnt through long experience what not to do, what works and what doesn't, they know which buttons NOT to push, and they forget that the reason SONAR doesn't crash so much for them is because they have learnt from experience ( I mean you can crash SONAR on demand if you want to, and not by going to extreme measures to do so, in fact simply by following procedures set out). But the poor old new user, read the manual, follow the manual, crash, over and over, because so many things simply don't work as described and require a workaround. I very rarely use SONAR any longer, I started with Pro Audio 9, I moved on a couple of years ago, but I still check it out every now and then, lifetime membership and all.
Bring on SONAR4Mac
at least they can be included in poles such as this and quit whinging about it.

Once again, Sonar was purposely left off this poll list for not being cross-platform. And those most known for throwing a tantrum for not being included in things seem to be Apple users.
BTW, I was a Cubase user until recently. A previous Ableton user for a short time (but didn't along with it). A Reaper user (but literally one thing made it unusable for me), but still watch it regularly. Presonus doesn't work on my system and they acknowledged it was their fault. And Bitwig, while something I've yet to try, is looking like something I'll be getting around to soon. Even more because of this thread.
To me, Apple is a closed system with a closed attitude and human right violations that my conscious often reminds me to avoid.

Wow, that was a long post! Actually, I'm a Sonar, Live, Bitwig, and soon to be Logic user. But the truth is that I'm home sick with a cold today, didn't get much sleep, and I'm cranky. I apologize!
