HG Fortune, alias of Günter Hager, passed away in 2014 (see memorial page here). His synths were loved by many. This is a description in his own words: "Fortune Cookie 2012 is a quite unique 'VA' synth (VSTi plugin) for various types of solo and more or less typical polysynth and strange FX sounds. It gains special uniqueness from it's different sync modes and X-Torsion. "

Want to try out your skills in other contests / competitions /challenges?
  • DiHalt Demoscene competitions
  • Indaba - Has a mix of popular and indie artists with various contests like remixing and song writing. Some people from OSC have had success here.
  • KVR Mix Challenge (see stickies) - Who can mix a song the best (Without adding extra recordings /musical additions)? Each person starts out with the same stems.
  • Music Cafe (KVR, see stickies) - A thematic monthly competition. Use recording, real instruments, synths and samples.
  • RemixComps - An aggregator for remix contests from a variety of artists and genres (mostly EDM) - indie and popular.
  • Skio Music Contests - Lots of remixes you can join (Mostly EDM) - big prizes.
  • Soundevotion (SDCOMPO) Competition - Even longer running than the OSC, the SDCOMPO is even more niche in that you must use a tracker, and set of specific effects. Great community.

Looks interesting, but :o oh, it's 32 bit only :(

How nice! Didn't know that one. I am extremely tempted to be in this month. :tu:

I already like this one.. just by looking at it ! :)

Thanks bjporter.
An H.G. Fortune synth has been on the list for quite a while.

Let's all try our very best to honor him ;).

Thanks to 574X for the heads up. Also we've had some people in the past request an HG Fortune month (Irion da Ronin, and definitely others).

Good news for Mac users! :hyper: FL Studio's alpha mac version hosts windows vsts!
Download: https://support.image-line.com/knowledg ... hp?ans=114
With the demo version you can do things like just leave it running, render the track, and save the project. Just don't close the project unless you plan to get an FL Studio licence because it won't reopen.

Mac users can also route Windows vst hosts into a daw, which is similar to routing an external, midi-controlled hardware synth.

Soundflower is the daw input source
https://github.com/mattingalls/Soundflo ... /tag/2.0b2

Then you use a win vst host, for example this awesome free software that can load windows vsts and be triggered by daw midi
http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php/en/ ... 5-x-10-6-x

Here's a video with instructions beginning at 1:30
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYpX_1cUrCc
so the trick is just to find out how to route multiple instances.

It's also common to use plugwire
http://diaphone.blogspot.de/2010/12/11.html

with this windows vst host http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm

Anyone get a decent white noise out of this? I haven't wrapped my head around everything yet, but noise seems to be absent.

Post

Hey everybody. Long time lurker and relative newcomer to music production here. I decided to join the forum so I could take part in OSC this month. Looking forward to seeing what everybody makes! :)

Welcome, Destreich!

@bh9090 noise is tricky but you're welcome to start with my first noisy/perc patch which is posted in the osc general discussion thread.

There's a very noisy quality to the osc 1 saw (turning the level of osc 2 to 0) in osc sync mode 2, dialing the pitch modulation intensity (? the manual doesn't explain PM INT...) to ~1 o'clock. Pitch Mod B by the PD-EG seems great for high percussion :tu:

32bit... Hmhmhm... I made a CPU quicktest: Well... I'm in - hope I've not to quit like the last OSC. The synth is great but I'm afraid I can't run my 11's standard intrument tracks lol. Maybe I can free some ressources using the build in effects.

Great. Thanks.

Anyone else having a bug where the oscillator sync settings reset to mode 9 when closing and reloading their project? Happens with some of my fortune cookie instance but not all of them

Post

Quite possibly an old Synth edit bug, not sure. You could try copying and pasting the DLL, and rename them like FortuneCookie1.dll, FortuneCookie2.dll, and so on.

Use a different one for each instance in your project.

You might have to put them in their own folder too. I'm still experimenting.
