What about the caped crusader's Six Wives of Henry the Eighth. Or is that so crap that even the proggers disown it?

Actually, I rather like SixWives, probably one of his strongest albums. Altho' I must confess to being a fan of his Rhapsodies doubleLP as well, so you can't have everything!nuffink wrote:What about the caped crusader's Six Wives of Henry the Eighth. Myths.., Journey To The Centre..., No Earthly Connex, 1984, WhiteRock, Zodiac, etc.. He's probably one of the most consistent upholders of the concept LP, but his work is so hit and miss. Still, he's one of the most entertaining of all the proggers in concert, so it's not all bad!
I left out UK's Danger Money, which has a powerful core to it all, if a little more pompous than the outing with Bruford and Holdsworth.

Yeah. The man is Trent. As far as I know, singer-songwriter isn't a concept...if it is, then are Jim Croce and James Taylor big concept album guys?downward spiral is really a concept album as it describes the toughts of one (sick and depressed) man.
If just having songs about something is a concept, then I nominate the entire britpop genre, because it was about living in england in the '90's
Parklife! Deifferent Class! (Not Definitely Maybe, because 10 years on, I still can't tell what the lyrics are f**king about!!!)
More narrative (and characters) on either of those than Downward Spiral.
I thought DS was really, really weak and uneven, personally. I almost took it back when I bought it...and I like the NIN.
...anyways, I can't believe I didn't think of this one, and nobody else seems to have either:
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR.
I still prefer Quadrophenia, but this is the only other concept album that ever hits my car stereo.

Disintegration by the Cure is a concept album?
Stick it on my list then. Their most consistently great album, not some of their best songs, but as an album it just works perfectly.
And the 2 Tweaker albums! how could I forget they're both thematically linked bunches of songs if not actual "concept" pieces.

I know I have got a negative edge, that’s why I sharpen all the others a lot.

Nektar-Recycled,,,,Destruction of the Human Machines!
The album was a bit soupy at times but with Larry Fast on tour with them that year ,the power of pure influence was so much,it scared the bageebee's out of everybody..
It's been re-released by engineer Geoff Emerick of Beatles fame...must have...along with Remember The Future which has also been released in 5-1 surround,,might be a toss-up...both were complete stories unto themselves...Sure do miss Roye T's epiphone madness!

Right on the money. I forgot about it, as well......anyways, I can't believe I didn't think of this one, and nobody else seems to have either:

Aside from being incredibly catchy, some of these songs have real depth. "I Don't Know How to Love Him" is quite simply one of the best, deepest, and complex love songs I know of...
But it has to be the Original London Concept recording (the white cover)!

Yes and it gets double points because not only does it qualify as concept due to its (genuine) narrative, but it also qualifies as concept due to its use as a showcase for G&C's Gizmo...duncanparsons wrote:Godley and Creme: Consequences (Yes, Ian, I had it too!)
Got to make it the winner, surely!

I actually have a CD that I made somewhere called "Ultimate JCSS". There are bits from the film I prefer, (Caiphas springs to mind), and even a couple of pieces from stage productions...it was (imho) all of the best performances on one CD.But it has to be the Original London Concept recording (the white cover)!
I suppose I could just write the word "dork out" on the CD and be just as accurate...

PIL's 'The Flowers Of Romance'
Kraftwerks 'Computer World' and 'Radio Activity'
Devo's 'Q:Are We Not Men? A:We Are Devo'
Boards Of Canada 'Music Has The Right To Children'
And ahem, my own Electricky, Metalurge, and Analogistic CD's
Hey - nobody was going to make them for me, so I had to do it myself. As usual.
