hi

i just seen a second hand EVENTIDE H3000 D/SX for sale(they are rare where i live) and I know any eventide is good stuff.... but what can I expect from an old H3000 D/SX, how does it compare to the TC fireworx for wierdness and reverb?, how does it compare with todays rack effect units.

I have the DSP4000, which was released later.

Nothing compares, even in software, with the Eventide stuff. I'm STILL waiting for them to catch up for weirdness, that's for sure. I think maybe Delaydots has some stuff that's more in that league, but I haven't really looked into them, quite honestly.

In short, I love mine, it's staying in my rack, and still haven't found a compelling reason to want to get rid of it.

Maybe when Scot gets back from vacation he can comment more on the H3000 since I know he's quite familiar with the unit.

Hmmm... I think I still have my KVR Love thingy up... lemme go look. I used the Eventide to do all the processing for it, and gave a lot of examples.

Thanks DevonB for the fast and positive response, im already looking for a place in my rack to place it

I would love to hear the "KVR Love thingy", or anything made with eventide gear.

Is Scot = Scot Solida?, if it is I PM him for some advice.

Yes, Scot is Scot Solida. And it looks like I toasted it off of my system. Maybe Vurt or WhyteRabbyt have it stashed, because I know they nixed their name out of it. Otherwise, if I remember this evening, I could repost it again, if I didn't flat out delete it.

At any rate, I love the Eventide, and love the reverb out of it too, even though they aren't necessarily known for their reverb, but for their pitch correction. If you want weird, it's got weird. I can't answer for what was new from the H3000 to the DSP4000, so that's something you should investigate. How much for the H3000 BTW?

Eventide Examples

The reverb on the beginning is a pretty extreme Highschool Gym setting. The rest should give you a good idea of the weirdness it does.

Eventide sure did make top notch stuff... I used to use one of the old DSP units in one of our old studios. Definetly good for above average FX and weirdness. Go buy it, you'll love it.

I had an Orville. They have some great effects and some that could be considered strange but it did not provide more esoteric forms of processing. Effects have become very specialized and there will always be something out there that it may have trouble doing, this was a major reason for me selling it. Also, they provide a graphical interface for programming your own effects. This not an easy setup like reaktor. I would rate the reaktor a 5 for difficulty and the eventide interface a 10. If you want this to do programming, it is possible but frustrating, VERY FRUSTRATING. Get in the eventide yahoo group and ask their opinions, even the biggest supporters of it will admit this downfall. If you want an Eventide for a live setup and you want unique good quality stuff and like presets this will be good. If you want easy programming and reaktor-like ease in amodular enivronment, this would be a dissapointment.

Just to set it for outputs was a bit of work. I suppose once you 'get it', it would be easier, but ya, Reaktor is easier, for sure.

Thanks for all advice and help.

After alot of googling I finally decided not to get the H3000 but go for the Eclipse instead. Why... because they just released a new version of the OS (3.0) with custom user scales and other small improvements and it has digital i/o.

Until I have saved up for the purchase I have to get along with reverb impulses
