Run it inside Falcon. Send Roland a scan of your fist with one middle finger outstretched.
I have seen that package given away as an extra with purchase. I got it that way when I bought something else from JRRShop (Falcon maybe?). It is surprisingly good. Actually, I have been impressed with all of the UVI sampled synthesizer stuff.

Digital Synsations sounds nothing like D50 IMHO

The D50 part of it was sampled from a D50.
So if it sounds "nothing like a D50" then they badly screwed up the sampling session...

(Maybe you were expecting the factory presets sampled - they don't do this, they program their own patches on the synths and sample those, which is a good idea).

Anyway - the news that a "proper" D-50 plugin looks like it's coming is pretty cool, as long as they do a good job of it!

EDIT: there was something borked with my account. I created a new one with a different email, and in that one, the download links show up instead of the "sign up now" button. The first account I made was totally broken; even signed in, the space for download links was just filled by "sign up now" buttons that led to "subscription type" and credit card info pages, with no mention of the free month.

Not sure what went wrong there, kinda sketchy really. The exact same process with my second attempt has actual download links. Weird.

edit edit: the account types weren't the same, even though they were created in the same way. the first one, in account settings, just says "member level: free". The second account, same screen, says: "Free Month Trial - Early Access Beta". totally different! and yet both were generated via the same page, same method, everything.

Just writing all this here in case someone has the same issue!

Folks, I'm baffled as to how to even GET the free month trial..

I clicked on the SIGN ME UP link, gave my name, email and chose a password...so now I have an account, great. But going to the download page for an instrument just gives me a bunch of "subscribe now to download" buttons... I thought I already subscribed? When I click on these, they want payment information (credit card). Still no mention of the free month..?

Am I correct in assuming that the "free trial" means giving them your credit card information now but they don't bill you until the 2nd month? And why the hell isn't all this more clear?

After giving my e-mail to create an account, there was no confirmation e-mail (I checked spam too), nothing. Seems that until I provide the credit card info, they don't think I exist....

I just registered, downloaded and activated the stuff, I didn't enter credit card info at any point.

Those VSTis are so insanely slow. Either it's running a hardware emulator inside or it is coded in unbelievable low quality... 20% one voice on a really fast core i7 cpu. What's wrong with roland? + this annoying cloud nonsense.

Sorry, too low programming quality for me.

(This post is regarding Jupiter-8 and Juno 106 VSTi)

Post

Downloaded + tested System-8, Juno, Jupi and think they are the best sounding softsynths i have ever tried.. beside the Sh-101, SH-2 and Promars.

Now after 3-4 hours i have a headache from the small GUIs. It hurts, damnit.

(System-8 has the sequencer that is only available from the hardware. Seq pattern and also parameter changes can be recorded and saved with a preset. Dunno if it is continous automation or per step..interesting)

CPU also got headache now..
I am really a fan of the sound, but the rest (UX) needs some "enhancing".

from a UI perspective, all of their plugins belong in 2005....

...rotary control only for knobs? are you kidding me?

...tiny fonts and smeared graphics?

...bizarre oldschool preset bank sorting, though that's the least offense overall.

thing is, though, I do think these things sound really, really good. The System 100, Pro-Mars and SH02 all were already fantastic. I think the new Juno sounds really amazing, too. The Jupiter, well, it's OK to me. but I've never been smitten with the Jupiter 8 to begin with.

I can't believe that Roland is trying to push a subscription service in 2017 with the UI's of these things... they are seriously living on a different planet.

also, the SH02 is nearly killed by the low-note priority only limitation. horrible.

It's pretty obvious they haven't "been in the game" yet. They have a lot of catching up to do.

The only good thing I see from this Roland Cloud thingy is: They got the sound covered. Which in many respects is the most important thing. GUIs should be easy for any coder to fix - optimization requires lots of work though - especially when doing it when all plugs are done and released, and I'm not sure if Roland is prepared to do such a thing. Very little ROI on optimization. But the GUIs should be a walk in the park.

Perhaps Roland is waiting for CPUs to catch up with their coders vision :)

With no proof at all mind you, I am pretty sure they are paying people to respond to this new "service" positively on social media. If you follow some of their accounts on Facebook, you see they are pretty dubious accounts. Especially considering how stoked they are for the service. I like Roland products, but I hate DRM. I can't imagine how some people could not comment on the DRM aspect at all. Especially users over 30.

East West have a cloud option, but they still let you buy it out. Not sure why Roland is forcing DRM in to our music creation.

I just have such a gross vibe about the whole thing. And it's not just Roland. When do you think we'll start to see our first operating system cloud service? DRM turns everything in to a black box that we have no control over. HAL-9000 lives, and he arrived with micro transactions built in.
A heaping dose of outrageously goofy synth tracks, scores and chiptunes.

See that's just what i'm always talking about. There is a vast difference between opinions in forums, and the typical buyer audience, or even the people on social media. People here are like :( :? about this, while they probably sell like hot cakes. It's just silly. :)

Not that i would subscribe to their cloud thing. But, it doesn't seem like the worst thing ever to me, especially as you're to keep a plugin, when you have been subscribed for 12 months. And, in the end, not the forum flaming will decide about success or not, but the amount of subscriptions.

The thing is, and obviously this was Caines point, is that such shortsightedness can have dire consequences in the future. And im not only talking about this Roland subscription thing either, i mean this in general.

Because the thing is this: The more crap people accept today, the more crap they will be expected to swallow tomorrow. (Just look around you, it doesnt take a genius to figure out that thats the way it goes.) Why: Because they know that they cant go where they ultimately want to go in one big step since the resistance would be too great. So they take it step by step, little by little, always pushing it a bit more, always as far as they can get away with at the time. After a while this then becomes the new normal and the next round of pushing it can follow. Why: Because people didnt resist and ultimately went along with it.

And the danger this poses should be obvious. Corporations and Businesses in general arent reason driven, they are driven by capitalism with all of its ugly aspects. As a consequence they will do whatever they can legally do whether the people like it or not: Its all just a matter of seeing how much they can get away with without meeting too much resistance. Thus if we arent very careful in what we accept today, there will come a time when we dont own anything anymore because everything will be 'rented' out to us under the guise of a 'service' while the ownership (and therefore the right to tell you what you can and cannot do with it) will remain with the entity that provides the 'service'.
