Do the Kirk Hunter Gigastudio libraries come with a GigaStudio player. If not, has anyone had experience with any of these libraries in VS3 or Sfz+?

They do not come with any giga player.Beardedone wrote:Do the Kirk Hunter Gigastudio libraries come with a GigaStudio player. If not, has anyone had experience with any of these libraries in VS3 or Sfz+?
I have the Kirk Hunter solo string (except the viola) and they work perfectly in SFZ+ ( giga version of course).
The simplest also work in VS3.
I received a beta demo version of the soon to be released "concert strings" and they also work perfectly in SFZ+.

Ditto on the experience with sfz+ and Kirk Hunter Solo Strings as well. No problems with any of the banks whatsoever that I experienced.

I received 2 DVD (8gb of .gig) around June the 15th.... I think Kirk Hunter knew there was going to be some delay...DevonB wrote:Ixox wrote:I received a beta demo version of the soon to be released "concert strings" and they also work perfectly in SFZ+.Tease!!! Spill the beans!!! How are they???

Many many programing possibilities.... modwheel, aftertouch.... assigned to vibrato, velocity etc....
Articulation mod switch or key switch etc....
so it seems to be easy to make impressive strings part !
It's far from raw samples...
As i cannot make any demos (without Kirk Hunter approval) i didn't spend much time with them...
Devon, did you read (northern sound) that finaly the provided solo strings are new recordings ? .... but with less articulation than the old solo strings....
That may be a cause of the delay.
And finally the whole library will be 180Gb (no more hard drive problem

No, I didn't read about that. I pretty much gave up on Northern Sounds, but pop into Garritan forum every few days to take a look. I thought the bickering gets bad over here...Ixox wrote:Devon, did you read (northern sound) that finaly the provided solo strings are new recordings ? .... but with less articulation than the old solo strings....

And damn... I only have 100GB free on my 200 GB drive I just. Guess I'd have to buy yet another drive just to have it filled.... I don't even want to think about how long it take to copy the whole library over from DVD though.

OK which has the best strings GPO Silver or EWQL Silver. The demos are OK sounding but they are only MP3s.
Note that I have a perhaps irrational prejudice against using any NI plug on my DAW but I might be able to overcome it as the (really insipid-looking) Kompakt player is actually supposed to work in Windows XP now.

Do you mean they are not at all dry sounding - I prefer a more direct sound for orchestral chambermusic - I have written some Neo-Baroque music that needs an 18th century string flavour- I can do without the movie orchestra sheen.

I've got them all and they work flawlessly in sfz+!Ixox wrote:They do not come with any giga player.

Hey, but you made me also curious about those concert strings!
Anyway, some info from Kirk's web site: http://www.kirkhunter.com/libraries/strings.shtml

Can any of you provide me with a link about that final solo strings version?DevonB wrote:No, I didn't read about that. Either way, guess I should go thread hunting then.

I was joking, there's no product named GPO silver.
Both of the libraries at this price point have considerable weaknesses.

I'm still waiting to have problems with Kompakt under XP on my machine still.... GPO, Storm Drum, Vapor, and DFH2 all worked flawlessly here. Been working with it since... May? I think? I'd have to check my reg dates on NI's site to be sure.Beardedone wrote:OK which has the best strings GPO Silver or EWQL Silver. The demos are OK sounding but they are only MP3s.

Best strings? So subjective. GPO is probably more of what you're after if you don't want that 'Ultra Hollywood In your Face' polish. That's the impression I've gotten from Silver, but alas I don't have it, only GPO. I can say they've been doing some pretty massive improvements behind the scenes with GPO as well.
