I would also take GPO over Silver, but actually I have both and don't use either. EWQLSO Gold is the best library I've tried for a realistic symphony orchestra sound and for other styles I have GOS. The weakest part of GPO IMO are the basses (same goes for GOS). I disliked them so much I ended up getting Silver just for the bass patches, and then I realised how good gold is.

Oops brainlock. Too many interuptions here at work. I meant to write I hope the damn NI Kontakt ugly plugin will work. I so far have little confidence in NI stuff. I am relying on the apparent concensus that the latest versions will run in Windows XP.

I've never had a problem with GPO but I've had loads of shit with the Gold version of Kompakt. But that library is much more demanding on system resources. Having seen how NI go about bugfixes/updates I really would rather avoid their products in the future.

Just to update: I love GPO! The GPO Kontakt player works fine in Sonar, FruityLoops Studio and Live 4. GPO can produce very good results with it's cut down Kontakt player. The GPO verrsion of Kontakt is a bit limited in flexibility though. For example, modulation control is global: Assigning modulation to say midi Channel 1 affects all of the other 7 channels. Not a big deal but limiting. A bigger issue is the lack of DFD streaming - one can run out out memory with a full orchestral pallete loaded. I have 1G of RDRAM 800 so I can laod al the essential orchestral parts to work up a sketch. Bottom line= I will certainly will upgrade to the full version of Kontakt :o. This after I swore off NI plugins.

The string sounds are very good overall and the full orchestra is coherent when properly mixed and some reverb laid on. Also the piano is very playable.

Having spent several very pleasant hours familiarizing myself the sound sets the GPO player functions, I have managed to compose some satisfying Orchestral material in Sonar and alsoin Overture 3.0 SE linked to the dedicated Plugue Bidule GPO VST host, "Personal Orchestra Studio" I have also found that Overture 3.0 can also work very well in with Sonar, scoring and exporting midi tracks. Awesome stuff.

Cheers,
Gordon

That should be fixed in the next update actually, having DFD.

YES :x ! waiting since exactly 7 months for an update of the buggy kontakt player...but NI sure delays that...I assume they want the people to get kontakt full...why should they then give away a free working kontakt player?

Post

Precisely. The latest version is apparently working very well in XP.
