so I bought Dust but am in need of help... How do i play different notes in from my keyboard? It's weird, I can only seem to play one note, no scales?
You have to set the trigger mode to "Midi Note Single".
Set the midi note range from C-2 - C8 (so the whole range).
Then if you want to play it like a chromatic synth f.e. you have to set (modulate) the pitch (via right click on the pitch circle) per "emitter" - whole midi range and/or midi note selected range
Beware that you have to also tune the pitch manually if you want to play along with other tuned synths, depending on your sample source. You can set a scale too of course.
Here is an exampel patch which you might look into it:

Sorry for my poor description (english is not my mother language).
The great thing is you can modulate a lot things per emitter (from which you can have up to 200 at the same time) which means each note/emitter you trigger can have a lot of different modulations individually.
If there are further questions i would happily try to answer them. I really like Dust. If i would be into videos i would make some tutorials but i am not :D
Now i must go to my real time job for the next 12 hours...
Edit: I also will release a free little patch bank (hopefully soon) with about 50 patches which just use the internal samples but it´s easy to change them with your own. Later maybe another one with some of my own sound sources and impulse responses. I wish i had more time to play with all my tools.....

Hey. Does anyone know what SoundMorph's license transfer policy is regarding Dust? I've emailed them but haven't heard back yet. Just wondering if you know...

Post

Screw it. I couldn't resist. my instincts where telling me that this synth is a) probably worth $100US and b) not something I'd want to sell off at some point.

Point b is a touch one to achieve. But I decided to go for it and take the risk.

So far... its blowing my mind. the usability is very good. as is the sound. its quite a powerhouse. but its a particular kind of thing (pun intended) and so you have to have a use for that kind of soundscape kind of thing.

I have a demo video I may post. its 17 mins. I want to watch to ensure its worth watching for 17 mins. sometimes when you do real-time unedited one-shot demos they can be boringly long.

I feel, so far, that my criteria are satisfied by DUST. very cool.

I'd be interested in seeing your demo video Plexuss!
I'm loving this plugin. It's very addictive.

I just launched this track which uses two instances of Dust. The Dusts are used for spacey background noises that swirl around the sound stage. they are brought in and out during the duration of the track. Dust isn't being used as the centre-piece of this track, but rather to create "ear candy".

It's 17.5 mins long. And it like's to be played loud on a system with extended bottom end.

I contacted SoundMorph about a demo and also their transfer policy. They told me that if Dust was not something I wanted or was giving me technical problem they would issue a refund. I would assume this would need to happen within a short window of buying it. Also, they said license transfers are not a problem and did not cite any fees. They just need the new owners email and name. You may want to contact them and ask for yourself when the time comes.

Have been keeping an eye on this for a while - after reading this thread I am a little be weary of dropping cash on it considering the other options, Is there STILL not effect support?

Thanks for the update. Didn't mention anything about an upcoming demo though? What a shame... I'm sure they miss sells )mine included) because of that.

I never liked buying clothes before trying them first. Often, I look wonky into them! Same for plugins.

Still no effect support, last update I downloaded.

Dust has it's uses, but I'm pretty close to buyers remorse. I've managed to find a use for it in 2 tracks since I bought it. Meh.

Just downloaded the latest version to check for changes. Installed fine..

Three times I tried loading it into Tracktion 7.

Three time Tracktion crashed to the desktop.

Yep, something changed all right, and not for the better.

Buyers remorse complete. Deleting Dust and crying over wasting my money.

Even the old T7 projects now crash to the desktop on loading.

Feh. :tantrum:

I emailed support about the effect version and got a reply yesterday, they're saying 4-6 weeks, its in the next update along with the demo version. I own Dust and think it's a dope tool.

I love it too, no problems in Live 9

I've been really enjoying Dust. It's great for creating "environments" of movement. I've used it on a rather rhythmic track to provide some interesting ear candy but only because I had this track in the works before getting Dust. I think Dust would be suited for soundscapes and drone music. I want to explore it more as a playable instrument which I think could be interesting. It does take work to get sounds the way you want them - I can't really rely on the presets. although the presets are a good learning tool.

I can see why I wouldn't be for everyone. it's not a general purpose synth unless you do more soundscape/drone music.

They said they will support license transfers and also a refund if within 30 days of having technical problems. so SyntheticAurality perhaps contact them and see if you can get a refund and if not sell it on the forum.

I'll check my order date.. if it's too late, I'll just sit on it until the next release comes out and see if it fixes anything. Thanks for the info!
