Touch The Universe releases the Northern Lights Soundset for Parawave's Rapid after a short hiatus from its initial release. The soundset has been updated and includes more presets. I'm happy to once again be able to work on this project and eager to share some great patch showcases I've been making . The soundsdet contains 214 presets and is suitable for nearly any contempory electronic music genre. I'll be showcasing the patches in goa trance, progressive trance, psybient, and atmospheric chillout songs and videos.



The highlights of the soundset includes the leads, which were programmed with a creative use of vibrato and modulation assignment so they can almost appear to be singing to you. They can be silky smooth or very edgy with a very clear distortion. A lot of them have filters cleverly assigned to macros and modulation wheel to create a formant like effect, which gives a really unique and modern feel to the leads. Some of the patches also utilize the formant wavetables, combining the creative filter formant effect with bonefied formant tables, creatively blending the best of both worlds -- lots of formant action! Rapid really excels in this category.

In addition, the soundset comes with some very beautiful and complex pads with rythmic and lush textures, all multi-layered and with modulations built into the patch and assigned to modulation sources and macros. Playing some chords with them will create a very chilled out and unique atmosphere, opposed to traditional sustained pads.

Also, the plucks are very unique and a lot have a plucky vocal quality to them. All heavily assigned and designed to play beautifully with a keyboard with creative and finely tuned velocity settings, spread throughout the layers. Likewise, the basses are also designed for playability and range from deep analogy through snappy digital basses. There are some really nice exotic, oriental type formant bass patch showcases I look forward to sharing.



One of the great things about Rapid is that samples can be loaded, and it comes with a lot of wavetable substitues for traditional instruments. I had a great time making some very realstic cello and vocal patches from the wavetables, and blended them in with there sampled counterparts to create an interesting blend of realistic instruments with purely synthesized psuedo counterparts.

I will be sharing a lot of patch showcases in the coming weeks. To start off, here is a vocal pad type sound. I tweak the macros and settings on rapid to explore the sonic potential a bit, though I probably should have changed the chords a few times around

A cross between a synthesized cello sound and a choir type sound, using heavy reverb and an ensemble. There are a total of 3 layers used, each with there own gate. I cycle through the macros and tweak the dry/wet on the gate of the layers. It is a live improvisation in one sitting.

A beautiful, relaxing pad "Additive Contention". As the name implies, it's 4 layers, one using some of the additive wavetables. I used the master filter to cut some of the higher bell like frequences out for the first pass, then blended them back in during the second pass. The pad has an almost synethic vocal like quality, that can sound reversed at times Great stuff!

I mentioned earlier about how cool it is Rapid has some wavetables of traditional instruments. Here is a little example of a synthesized cello layered with a lush pad, that is sidechained at times for a more dynamic, rythmic feel. I used both a violin and cello wavetable and modulated to the pitch and volume around 7hz using a lfo, which is the traditional range of the vibrato for a cello. I also have the wavetable itself tied to a lfo to scan through the wavetable to add the extra harmonic movement that is realistic of a cello. Furthermore, i layered it with a lush pad with semi high res and applied a sidechain gate to it. In the video I am tweaking the macros and filter settings throughout the layer, as well the dry/wet of the sidechain on the pad. Hope you guys like it

Hey guys, it seems I ran into a little snag with camtasia and all the audio she is spitting out is slightly distorted like a ring mod is somewhere in the audio signal. The audio in the above video is a clear demonstration of this. Bare with me while I try to fix the issue and I'll reupload those videos. Problem fixed I just had to switch to my focusrite driver and everything is going smooth. I updated the video and all is good

Here is a segment of one of the song demo's I'm working on. Truth be told, I'm having so much fun and productivity with rapid, I'm currently working on 7 full blown songs at the moment -- almost an entire albums worth from this soundset alone

It's a good showcase of a few of the basses and one of the leads, in addition there are quite a few pad and effects layered throughout the track. I hope you guys like it. I was having quite a time trying to decide if all the other bass elements are detracting from the main lead, like shown in the final minute of the track, so it took a while to realize adding more elements detracts from the main lead itself. The first minute and a half has a lot of basses going on, they second part has less basses playing since the lead is in the forefront (probably what the song will go with). I'll try to find an open spot though for those basses somewhere else in the mix. Anyone agree, disagree? I would love to hear about it
