No it's not. All my standalone programs and plugins work fine... once I spend the time to RTFM and get them setup properly. Sometimes that means delaying OS upgrades, or buying a conversion utility.
To me, each program is a different 'way of thinking' about a task. If I like that developer's way of thinking, I will enjoy spending the time needed to make it work in my system. Also, I expect that most programs will need some time for tweaking, so I'm careful what I buy.
Btw, how's the weather in pixie-dust land? 70 and sunny every day?

Yes and all our little ponies love it. Thanks for caring and sharing!

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has that good a luck with stuff. The stuff that works is luck, nothing more.

Most people are "careful" when they buy (or have return policies) not to mention it wasn't that long ago that many things couldn't even be demoed (like sonar)

Logic*
Cubase**
Sonar
DP

*still cannot be demoed
**only with a steiny key

That's some f**king expensive shit their homie, especially older costs and upgrades. Live just recently added PDC, and even my two beau's, bitwig/reason, have all kinds of issues (but at least they don't crash)

So being "smart" isn't always an option. It's a matter of what you are willing to put up with. I like doing music, so I'll put up with a lot, but it's STILL MOSTLY SHIT.

Tell me all about it... i'm sure the ones doing this for a living, and relying on stable software are blessed with pure luck. :P

But, seriously, i used quite a lot of software in my life, and most audio stuff is among the most stable and bug free i ever used. You and the OP are either extremely unlucky (i don't really believe in luck...), using the wrong software (doesn't appear to be the case, judging from the mentioned software...), using a weird hardware (possible), set up your system in a problematic way, or installed problematic software (also possible), or, no offense, just doing something wrong. Seriously, doesn't common sense tell you that it can't be all as bug infested, and unstable as you claim it is? No producer, mixing or mastering engineer can work with software which is crashing, or bugging out the whole time. It's just impossible to work like that. I have a feeling though that you simply may be exaggerating much, and that it's all not as severe as it sounds like. At least that's about the only explanation i have really.

Sorry to hear that. My "luck" is that I just don't use stuff that doesn't work well for me. To put it in your words: I don't put up with even a faint whiff of shit. But if I really like something, I'll happily work within its limits and with the developer. Also, I'm a hands-on person (I used to edit with razor blades) so I prefer stuff that does one thing well and lets me make more of the decisions. Thus, my stuff tends to be simpler and less troublesome.

Most of my stuff works fine, but I had to go through a lot of stuff that doesn't work to get there. I'm tired of hearing about how perfect everyone else is just because they CHOOSE not to complain.

Mostly you hear about all the crap people put up with, I refuse. If it doesn't work, and the company can't make it work, then it's a fraud.

Fixed!

For people who have been paying attention, I praise more than complain. It's just that people that hear me complain about something that is a problem for countless others, just want to complain about me :D

Feel however you want. We live in a world who thinks the last sucksessfully impeached US pres is Nixon and that everyone in murica is fat and eats at mcdonalds every day. Doesn't mean it's true.

I loved the Thread title so I was being funny ... or trying to be .. Actually I've had my ups and downs with music equipment , instruments , midi controllers , computers , and software over the years ... I've gone to a less is the best approach , use the tools that work and don't try or buy every new DAW or plugin ... Or guitar , bass , etc etc. No tool or instrument is perfect and if it is over time it'll Shit on itself too ... :hihi:
