Is it me or everything works like shit??

I think simplicity, availability and maintainability come into it.
With electronics, the electrons actually carry part of the component away in extreme circumstances particularly.
It's an uphill battle to perfectly engineer for sure.
It's a pity I'm not entertained with a stainless butter knife alone I guess,
but they say it was never meant to be easy

Most of the hardware I've owned (sans MM) has worked fine. I grow in/out of instruments but functionally it's fine.nix808 wrote:I think simplicity, availability and maintainability come into it.

Now, the software aspect in terms of drivers and such has been a debatable subject.
For software, likes and dislikes COMPLETELY out of the picture, a lot of it doesn't work properly. That doesn't mean you can't use it, but there are too many sacrifices compared to the "tin"

I used to believe that anyone can use and enjoy software. I was wrong. Everyone is different. This thread has taught me that software is just not a good fit for some people, and they will be much happier and more productive with hardware or physical instruments only!

Eh?
I think you're little too narrow. This is why I don't like positive thinkers. Everything is so rosy and wonderful and people who are not like that simply need to be sent to the showers.
A lot more common sense to what I'm saying that you pal. You're the first one to troll the op. I thought you were being funny, I should have known better.
Take it up the wazoo people. Who needs landing gear to operate properly? FFS, the belly of the plane will do just fine.

I wasn't trolling or being funny. From time to time, people announce they are going 'all-hardware' or 'all software' or 'all instruments.' I was just observing that all decisions are valid, and not everyone has to be the same and to like software.incubus wrote:You're the first one to troll the op. Buddy, I'd been long gone from this 10 years ago if I "didn't like software" so I have no idea what you are going on about.
Frankly I don't like being ripped off or taken advantage of, I'm going to complain about that.
.oO
Not too long ago I had a guy who would swear on his mothers life about how spectacular his mac and dp was. Now, I'm talking the fanboi of fanbois who wouldn't even give windows a try and is in line for every single thing that comes out at the apple store.
Everytime we did a track it would freeze up, and he'd have to restart. I'm like "WTF?" and he's like "it's just something you have to put up with"
?
Not me me brothas. That's almost as bad as poof crashes (tracktion, sonar regularly) and it goes to show that fanboi's gonna fanboi. They don't care that it's not working properly, or promises are broken. They simply don't want to hear people complain, which is absurd.

Good example. So does that mean DP is shit, or does it mean your friend should have fixed that problem? Either way, why did he put up with it, and not do something about it? I think some people don't like to solve software issues. That's what I'm on about.incubus wrote:Everytime we did a track it would freeze up, and he'd have to restart. Many "software issue" come just from general mess in operating systems - installing eveyrything without reading etc. So not being aware user alone can cause troubles. Over years I see that every next system causes less and less issues and if it does, they can be solved quickly.Michael L wrote:I think some people don't like to solve software issues. Yeah, once you read the manual and got used to the sample rates, etc. The audio quality was dubious at best. I used mine for playing live. Used to have to reload one of them during the set coz the memory was so small (512k).incubus wrote:But did it work?thecontrolcentre wrote:I used to have 2 of them ... editing was a nightmare.donkey tugger wrote:There's shit, and then there's;

Could crowded processing also be the problem? Does your stuff work any better when you disable or remove your security software? Add to that an inefficient skin and I've seen sh happen. Or it could be a fragmented file if its a PC.

software companies over promise and under deliver, then blame the user, meanwhile creaming off ridiculous profits rather than spend the money to improve their products.
Of course not all software companies are like this, but I am sure many recognise some that are.
There is a shitload of software around, and the managerial systems it supports, that have made life worse. For example, it takes a lot longer to get paid when you join an organisation now than 40 years ago. Customer service is often worse now because computer system workflows have got rid of the need for knowledgable service staff. And so on. People grow up with the new systems and don't realise that the new systems are not necessarily better. In the same way people of 20 now do not realise just how many, many more butterflies there used to be
