SONAR issues...deal breaker?

Yeah, my point is that you can get 20 opinions here... and the only one that really matters is *yours*.
Sounds like you like the Sonar Platinum demo.
I suggested perusing the forums... not necessarily to "hang out"... but you'll get a sense of what folks are thinking/saying.
If you're worried about making the wrong investment:
Go with the monthly payment plan.
If you start using Sonar Platinum... and you ultimately just don't like it (or the experience), you're out one month's cost. Cancel... and you're out no more
Once you've paid 12 months cost, your copy of Sonar never expires.
It's just a few more dollars to do this... and it's a good way to test the waters.

Ok, but remember this isn't about me, it's about facts.
If all you use is audio, and you don't use 3rd party stuff, then everything changes.
Really upsets me that this is the "basis" of endorsing something.
I use loops, vst's, midi, multi-out vst's, samples, 3rd party vsts, sonar stuff and controllers. It's unfair under the best of circumstances to do audio/non-3rd party and say "works fine here" as really anything can do that.
HOWEVER, sonar advertises these features and BRAGS about them.
Things that make you go "hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"
Again, common sense doesn't go hand-in-hand with cake. I've seen this over and over and it's it's not even close to being just me.
Good luck in your endeavors.

More evidence of the non existence of SONAR/Cakewalk support and the constant issues we have to deal with, and what worked last month doesn't this month for those who deny or doubt, there is plenty of such cases

some go through this for weeks/months on end, sad really

I've never taken this too seriously, and I think that blood was never spilled, but anyway, you are right.Hink wrote:absolutely no call for this blatant flaming and trolling, you and incubus have gone at it in other Sonar threads and you wont start it here again. Okay?JoseC. wrote:

So... in summary:
- Sonar Platinum constantly crashes
- Gibson is a horrible company (don't know what they're doing)
- Cakewalk is going out of business

Yeah, that's why the third post in this thread was your premptive dismissal of the opinion of anyone who might have something non-negative to say, and why your contribution has been multiple repetitions of the same basic 'wah, its teh suck' without really including any single specific issues that affects Sonar universally.incubus wrote:Ok, but remember this isn't about me, it's about facts.
'Really upsets you', huh? How sensitive you must be on that "basis".If all you use is audio, and you don't use 3rd party stuff, then everything changes.

I use loops, vst's, midi, multi-out vst's, samples, 3rd party vsts, sonar stuff controllers and external hardware. And have done for about 15 years. It works fine here, equally as well as the other hosts I also use.I use loops, vst's, midi, multi-out vst's, samples, 3rd party vsts, sonar stuff and controllers. But I guess that's 'unfair' too. The only thing that's presumably not 'unfair' will be you undermining the right to an opinion of anyone who gives an impression contrary to the one you repeatedly shove down everyone's throats every time there's a Sonar thread.
Set Theory claim:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate.
Red is Red and anything that is Red is an object, a class in itself or a real thing if you prefer"

I doubt it. CAL, although it still works, is effectively a deprecated feature(*), and is thus barely used any more, plus its an 'offline' process; it doesnt happen during realtime audio.xalama qo wrote:How much does CAL play into the widely varying reports of instability? Could buggy scripts be a factor?
As for 'widely varying reports' of instability, Ive been using Sonar since V1, with tens of hundreds of plugins over that period of time, from bizarre Synthedit concoctions to 'big ticket' studio standards, and its always had the best-featured, most tolerant, most reliable handling of 3rd party plugins of any major host Ive used. (Only Bidule has been more stable, but it is fussier scanning. Live seems to do the scanning quite well these days, but you have no customisation, no VST3, and no bridging) Just as an example.
Which will be 'unfair' of me to say so, no doubt, because you're only allowed to report anecdotally if its negative, nebulous, and ten years out of date.
(*) which is an absolute shame, as the ability to script the processing of MIDI events was very useful. A preemption of the kind of stuff that people seem to think Reaper and Bitwig invented. Same for their MIDI device front-end stuff (Studioware).

Really, I have to agree with whyteabbyt.
I use Cakewalk/Sonar für about 15 years. I have had my issues, but generally it worked. Since X3 it works almost flawless for me, and I do use a lot of 3rd Party plugins. In fact, I have to agree that Sonat is the most tolerant host I have (FL Studio, Live, Audition) when it come to 3rd party plugin support.

I started out with Music Creator and switched to Sonar around version 6. I was then trained on Pro Tools. They both crashed a lot. Do you know the one thing they both had in common? Yeah, my computer.
I find most DAWs are stable if you don't overload them past what your computer can handle. I don't use Sonar much anymore because I like Cubase's chord track, but I always thought it was pretty stable for a DAW and relatively easy to use. JBridge is a great investment (and frankly cheap) if you want to ensure your 32 bit plugs don't crash the system and still use them. I don't think I've had a crash since using it. Though frankly most of my plugs are now 64 bit. Just a few freebies like I use on occasion. Frankly, if Sonar got a chord track? I'd dump Cubase in a heartbeat.

Would really be nice if people could understand why people are upset with sonar/cakewalk and not have to be polar opposites.
