Well the point is that you don't need New Tech to use Poly-Ana. I've even used it without issue on a 22" running at 1680x1050.

Here's the skin I use just for playing Poly-Ana. If I'm doing any long periods of patch programming I'll switch to grey since the orange can be harsh on the eyes.

I'm sorry did I miss the link to where XILS 4 dropped from $190 to $45 and dropped the requirement for iLok ?

Is Poly-Ana perfect ? No. Is it worth $45 ? In my opinion Yes.

Oh and try the AA button............

I used to run poly-Ana on an XP single core laptop with a non SSE processor. Mike made me a 'one-off' version. This was 10 years or so back. For me, Poly-Ana was the first VA that nailed that 'analog' sound. Still sounds great to me.

Honestly I think the 3 new gui's are fine, esp. compared to that original one. That first one looks brutal. jmo
Put preset 048 "Solo Brass" on at 192 khz. Play some high notes. Not even that high. Wince at the aliasing. Turn "anti-alasing on." Say, "WTF?" Turn anti-aliasing off. Boost quality up to 768. Note it's better, but still noticably aliasing. Load up XILS 4. Never use Poly-Ana again.
I get good sound from it with or w/out aa & still without a huge cpu hit. Then again not a huge fan of the presets generally speaking, or use them other than starting off points. Been using it steady since I bought it, most fun synth I have to tweak and play around with atm. MWV I guess. The bass on it rumbles and purrs beautifully. Idk I'm new to this admittedly so wtf do i know, but i really like this synth. Works for my purposes at least.

About Xils4, it's sounds good, but his second matrix is buggy in current version, unfortunately (try to use additional "red" slots).

Just some random thoughts:

if monitor size is small and resolution is low the GUI usually looks bigger, for example old arturia GUI were fine at the time of release and had become quite small by today size and resolution. So if you have a small monitor decrease resolution even more. Yes, stuff becomes blurry but there is no way around that.

If you use a bigger high resolution monitor GUIs (no vector) become smaller and modern ones should have some kind of resizing to make it comfortable to use.

So if wagtunes is using an old monitor he already has a good size of GUI, a new one will only make it smaller.

I use a 23" monitor and don't have good vision so I normally prefer vector based GUI which can be resized, as Ableton live, Valhalla, Madrona Labs, fabfilter or those who provide resizing even if their GUIs are bitmaps (u.he). In fact it is quite a shame so few developers do this.

BTW I use a monitor arm which is installed in the wall, saves desktop space and you can pull it towards you to make it more confortable.

A good way to recycle an old monitor is continuing to use it

Having a couple of monitors hooked up to the computer, one of them can for example be set to 1024x768 (or lower), which is good for older VST's

Can you use it or program it's ugly UI? No!
Can you stand to dev attitude? No.

You're right. If you want cheap and subpar sound, it's the one to go for.

this.

i dont know why you guys are telling him to get a bigger/better monitor if hes already complaining that guis are too small. larger monitor = smaller gui

i have a 29 inch 21:9 ultra wide monitor, and while i think its great for my daw...older vsts with small guis are a real problem.

I bought this in 2009 , but in 2017 even the free OB-Xd impresses me more.

I still have my license/account that I would happily trade. ( License transfer / resale isn't allowed).

Thank you. The problem is not the size of the GUI, though it could be a little bigger. The problem is with all the crap that they crammed into one screen. This would have been a much more workable synth had they used a tab system. In fact, outside of maybe Lush 101, I don't think there's one single screen synth made with as much crap on one screen as this one. And if there is, I can probably assure you I don't own it.
