Currently I got an iPad Air(1).
Im am thinking about upgrading to an iPad Pro. The wish was triggered by the current version of GarageBand, since the included Alchemy requires an iPad Air2 or higher.

Well, just for that the investment is probably a bit too high.
So I am looking for sensefull additional reasons to upgrade :-)

What else could I do with an iPad Pro, that I could not do with my iPad Air?
One thing surely would be the number of instances of AU plugins that I could run in Cubasis or GarageBand.

On the other hand, the next iPad (Pro2) might not be far away in time, so I probably should wait for that...

Yup! New stuff on the horizon.

I'm in the same boat as you, but mostly interested in the Pro and Pencil as a Wacom alternative. Personally, I'm waiting to see what the next version looks like.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I've heard the new iPad Pro isn't much an upgrade over the last on mac rumours but I would deffo wait, no point rushing it the new one is due and I would deffo get one. I love my one.

I would wait. Better CPU more RAM(?) and space(?). But i really hope they get 3D touch on iPads. It works great on my iPhone (the aftertouch is even better as on my Seaboard Rise).
Then we see more MPE style synths too maybe.
The problem is still iOS itself which still feels like a bloated iPhone OS.
We will see.....

I wouldn't be going for a Pro unless I was doing visual art, sheet reading music or really liked editing video on the ipad. The size makes them impractical for mounting to a mic stand and they take up a lot of room on the desk.

I don't think that's a new one (and afaik it doesn't work on iPad since Air 2)

Wow you are right. Thanks I was ready to get one.

Yeah there are no decent pens for iPad except the Pencil and that is only with the Pro

It's still just a preset player.
I even find the "old" app better since i could import my Alchemy 1.55 patches into it.
Nowhere near to Alchemy(2.0) in Logic.

I keep thinking the same. Still have my ipad air but that urge to upgrade is growing. At this point though its also sort of hard to justify an ipad pro. At 700$ for one with a normal amount of storage thats a bit hard to justify when you could get a windows tablet or 2in1 and just run steam games and something like bitwig and vsts on it, plus whatever else you wanted. The only thing tying me to the ipad at this point is the great library of audio software
