Anyone else completely disappointed by Omnisphere?

Again, this is all my fault. I should have gone to a music store and demoed the thing first. I really wasn't paying close attention. It was expensive and had a sterling reputation for "film music," so I figured it had to be good. And it probably is if you're scoring The Matrix or whatever. But I hate The Matrix, and right now, I hate Omnisphere.

Just curious. Could it be that the OP is on their way to a depression? I remember when I was depressed I ended up wearing ear plugs all the time.. listening to music simply was impossible.
This could be a sign, because ordering new stuff -to compensate depression- could be an indication.

As to the original question, no, I'm not disappointed with Omnisphere. I do think there can be misleading thoughts out there and it took me a bit to realize Omnisphere does not always match up with that.

I discovered this before purchasing by listening to many demo videos on YouTube and realized there were no basic pianos and other sounds. I asked a friend who uses it who also explained to me the lack of any basic piano. I was disappointed and took me a bit to get over it. Now that I have it, I sometimes use the piano sounds it does contain or some from 3rd parties, but still mostly stick with my pianos on my Yamaha synth.

If all you hear is The Matrix then you are missing a lot of what Omnisphere offers. Though if you are wanting Lawrence Of Arabia then more dedicated orchestral software will be necessary.

I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed and can kind of relate. I was originally thinking it was going to be more than it really is. But now I'd be sad NOT to have it. It does help that what Omni does offer fits very well with my style.

First, not EVERYONE likes everything, sorry to break you bad news. I'm plenty pissed about the recent sonar thread, I don't think I over-reacted like the fanboi's say.

Second, at selling, I know from experience, it's an exercise in EXTREME persistence and frustration. It can be done, but not with any kind of ease. I'm not exaggerating when I say I had at least 3 different people screwing with a group of license transfers I did. I kid you not, I had people asking remedial questions LONG AFTER the transaction was complete and was a basket case during the process. TBH, I only give a f**k about the recipient getting what I promised

Third: Who are you people, the virus police? I mean seriously, if he/she's unhappy, so what? They have every right to vent.

You're totally missing the point. He was asking for help from people to explain what all the fuss is about, ie...why Omni is hyped up to be the greatest, this was after all what inspired him to drop 500 on it. And he's unhappy because he hasn't truly explored the possibilities this synth can offer and in time he'll find that out.

I wasn't aware that Omnisphere had a demo now. I know when I bought it there was no demo.

Anyway, like I said, synth isn't for everybody. It's not a rompler filled with bread and butter sounds. No decent piano. No acoustic bass. No real brass or woodwinds or electric guitars.

That's not what the synth is for. Omnisphere is my go to for ambient music. When I want a complex pad that would take me ages to create in another synth, if at all, I go to Omnisphere. I sold hardware synths to be able to afford to get this because I knew it had things that I wanted.

But there are people out there who don't want those things and will be very disappointed with Omnisphere.

I can absolutely understand that. But Omnisphere fan boys can't.

I love my Omni. Fat and bright sound, right beside Diva - but different concept. Sound is much more impressive than Avenger, Arturia V, Hive ...

But I think for a synth a fabulous epiano and dance piano sound is missing. Also simple (disco-) strings.

This is a beast, and it screams sonic quality. The possibilities are incredible for sound design. I really like to use it for weird sound effects, ambiences and sonic adventures that haven’t been explored before. The possibilities are almost endless in this software. I’m looking into to getting Trilian which seems to be an equally powerful tool, specially when combined within Omnisphere.
