I really liked it, but my expectations were realistic. I wouldn't expect a group of millionaires in their fifties to "rock the house" like they did when they were young and had something to prove. Spirit is still a good album, well composed and beautifully produced. Which is something I rarely hear from any bands nowadays.

My favorite tune on the album is "Scum". :hihi:

I wish the album would have been longer though. I bought the deluxe version and it only has additional remixes, no new tunes like "Delta Machine".

You are right. I'm a big fan for more than two decades. Not the power of the 80'th and 90'th. Spirit is ok and better than the last two releases.

But we expect no new ETS or Never let me down again.

The production is very well!

I watched the "Spirit Tour" Live in Berlin on YouTube and the way Martin Gore plays the guitar is almost more exciting than a Kraftwerk's drum solo :)

Depeche Mode is on my "automatic buy" list. Now if I can just find the deluxe edition for a sensible price (yes, I still buy CDs). As for wanting glories of the past, I'd be more interested in another Ultra or Playing the Angel. I wouldn't mind another Violator (it's the crown jewel of mid-era DM), but I really like their more energetic and aggressive stuff, despite it having taken me weeks to even accept Ultra as being DM (I was like "what's this shit??" and now I love it). The very early stuff is fun but isn't what set me on to being a fan.

Yeah I know this thread, it's about the single, not the album.
