I have encountered the following problem on several audio software websites. Tracktion is just the most recent. Native Instruments and Plugin Alliance are two others that I remember.

This morning I created an account at Tracktion.com, using a fairly secure password (both upper and lower case, numerals, punctuation). I logged out of my account and back in again to insure that my password manager had captured the password correctly. I then downloaded and installed Tracktion 5. When the software prompted me to authorize it, I entered my login credentials and was told that the password is invalid. I tried it a second time -- this time cutting and pasting from my password manager to avoid typing errors. It still didn't work. I went back to the website and changed my password to a less secure one (no punctuation symbols). The software immediately allowed me to authorize using the second password.

In short, the website will allow you to put a password on your account that the software on your personal computer will not accept as valid. They have different rules for what characters are valid in passwords.
