Which soundfont creator/editor software?

Yesterday I downloaded Vienna 2.3 to have a go at creating my own sf2 files. But alas, it won't start 'cause it misses a SF compatible soundcard. And the old SB AWE32 card I have is not a PCI card, it doesn't fit in my PC anymore.
So which software do you guys use to edit soundfonts, other than Vienna?

New soundblasters are cheap, although they're definitely not "pro audio" cards. I have one in my desktop machine (not knowing better when I got it), but use an Edirol UA-20 (USB) on my laptop.C00kie wrote:Yesterday I downloaded Vienna 2.3 to have a go at creating my own sf2 files. My tools of choice for building soundfonts are VSampler3, along with EZ-Editor (Zero-X did this for Image-Line to market, it's a lightweight audio editor with auto loop finding and crossfade).
A few other programs that I don't use much any more:
- Chainer - builds multisamples in wav or SF2 format (I use wav then loop them with EZ-Editor).
- Extreme Sample Converter (can you still purchase this? there's no "purchase" button on the site)
- Soundfaction Alive (requires now-defunct LiveSynth Pro in order to demo on machines without SB cards, and hasn't been updated since before then).
If I was doing it over again, I'd buy AWave Studio instead of EXSC & Alive.

I'll second Awave, works fairly well if you're starting from scratch, extremely well if you just want to convert existing sounds from a different format into SF's.
I wish we had more options when it comes to SF editors. They all feel pretty clunky even trying to do the most basic editing of mapping keyboard ranges, velocity layers...etc.
Since I first heard a quality soundfont played back on SFZ, I've been dying to find a SF editor that wasn't a pain to use, but realistically I doubt we'll be getting one anytime soon.

AWave it is then!
Hmm, found v 4.3 sitting on my harddisk since 1997
Seems to work still (cumbersome)
It must have developed since then, now also from/to Akai S5/6000 format. I'll dl the demo of v 9.1
Thanks!

Hi
Just been trying xlutop's chainer. The stand alone demo version, that comes with the vst one, can create .sf2 files as well. >export
Its great, you can chain vsti's, chose banks, add fx and save as a sound font. Very simple, can't layer though.
Try crazy diamonds with cheese machine and some fx... or mda epiano + some stings and choir.
I am now going to buy it! looks like I will be doing some fonts
