It is a virtual eight-ohm non-reactive dummy load for testing digital audio streams at high volume without producing actual output.
It will be named ReSistor.

actually, I thought the first demo sounded a bit AIR-ish. almost like the first track on their last cd. it definitely had that tube compression sound. call me crazy but i kind of dig it.
the second track.....well....let's just say that isn't my cup of tea.
why hate on propellerheads? I am not a reason user but i have always felt that those guys at propellerhead are pretty innovative.

This excerpt from one of the Prop-head's .plan entries makes me wonder:

Just so you know... I've been reading the contest entries and some of you are reading a lot of things into this that aren't there. I hope you won't be disappointed when you find out what we're about to release, but please read the text again. I could say things like "we didn't say it was an application" (hey - it *could* just be a mouse pad with such good advice on music production that you'd start cranking out tunes like the examples in no-time) but that would make the contest too easy. Still though, don't take anything for granted.

well I picked mastering app because of the differences in the first clip..
but maybe they did a deal with m-audio to make a reason-specific HUI or something..
but I'm still guessing its software.. mainly because the write on their site says, "You also have the chance to get a free copy of it, whatever it turns out to be, for yourself." which imo sounds like software.
surely by now 10 people have guessed it though.. there must have been A LOT of people who have already emailed in their answer already..

But it's the "mastering" effect that was applied to the mixes of both tunes that to be honest really makes me ill.. it's like someone feeding you choclate flavoured shit wafers.
One public "tool" to help choke the final few breaths of life that music mat have left.
Please god of music, let it be a mouse.
