I recently bought platinum as ive been a cakewalk user for years but took a break from it due to getting Abelton live studio for a gift and its been nothing but a rock. I havnt had a single crash glitch crackle or pop, and was wondering why more ppl are not using it? Pro tool i found to be slow and clunky to use so i gave up on that as i make house/trance and it just wasn't suitable for what i needed Abelton is really good i love using the clips to throw samples in and see what happens, cubase ive just never tried as their demo need a usb dongle! no thanks so Sonar was my pick off the crop and im glad i got it...cheers

This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here?

I had 4 issues with Sonar that really caused me to leave:
1. The X1 series GUI: everything got way too big. What's the point of a dockable console when you can only see a quarter of the channel strip, and why are the strips so wide? Why is the toolbar so thick? It's like they built this stuff for touch, ignoring anyone using a mouse and a 24" 1080p monitor. The 8.5 UI was much more funcitonal.
2. Random bugs. I'd get the same old random bugs popping up now and then going back 10 years. Things like Sonar disappearing to the desktop randomly, and the "Can't record. Disk is full" error message that would pop up out of nowhere when the disk wasn't full.
3. Project corruption. This is technically a random bug, but a few times a year, project files would get corrupted. Sometimes on new projects with no backups. Now, because Sonar keeps the MIDI in the project file, any audio data could be recovered and recreated but the MIDI was gone forever. This only needs to happen a few times before you start looking elsewhere. I hope #2 and #3 have improved now that they're doing monthly releases with lots of bug fixes.
4. Workflow. Want to insert an instrument? Wait, pop-up box. Want to paste? Pop-up box. That kind of stuff slowed me down and got frustrating. Not sure if that's improved any in recent releases.
Other than that, I really liked Sonar in terms of features and still see them adding cool stuff with the monthly releases. I check the release notes every month just to see if #2 and #3 are specifically mentioned but haven't seen either. The UI and workflow issues don't appear to have been addressed at all. As is, Studio One fixed a lot of the workflow and random bug problems I had, but presents different challenges with as a less CPU friendly DAW with underdeveloped MIDI functionality.

+1 (and knock on wood). Though, I'm not sure why the OP feels Sonar is underrepresented. It's their first post, so I' will give the benefit of the doubt.CTStump wrote:Glad it works for ya...
I must have missed some Sonar threads/history here because I have yet to see a Sonar bashfest. People have had their disagreements, but that could be in any thread about any DAW.

Thread is about Sonar Platinum.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote:... had issues with Sonar (X1)...

So X1 and past issues are irrelevant.
(Maybe give the demo a try first?)
Keeping to the here and now,
Platinum has been great for me overall.

I seen threads that go overboard with both sides being represented in a personal manner i.e. name calliing usually refering to forum experiences at cakewalk and here.telecharge wrote:+1 (and knock on wood). People have issues and people don't which is par for the course for any DAW, not saying Sonar is alone with hyperbole replies but anytime someone starts a thread in support or against Sonar it can get heated with out of hand criticism or blind support.
The entertainment factor is there but as stated before lets hope I'm wrong and we can have one of those cumbayah moment at least in this thread...
My cynicism tells me to keep the popcorn ready.

but let's not prime the pump either
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

If we keep it to the current version though, over half of our 'usual suspects' can be negated by their own lack of knowing anything about Platinum.CTStump wrote:People have issues and people don't which is par for the course for any DAW, not saying Sonar is alone with hyperbole replies but anytime someone starts a thread in support or against Sonar it can get heated with out of hand criticism or blind support.telecharge wrote: I must have missed some Sonar threads/history here because I have yet to see a Sonar bashfest. But like you, I've got my snacks ready...
(And it gets more interesting after a few classes in BLPD assessment. But don't do 'shots' every time you spot a cognitive distortion or you'll be drunk in a single post.)

Any mention of Sonar usually brings out the trolls and jerks. They can't just enjoy their own DAW; they have to bash someone else's. That's how they have their fun, I guess.CTStump wrote:Glad it works for ya...
Boy I sure hope this thread doesn't start a Sonar bashfest... I'll keep the popcorn ready.
To the OP, I'm glad you're enjoying Sonar. I just found ways of tweaking the control bar at the top of the screen that has made my workflow even more efficient! I still find things it can do (or that it can do better) almost each time I use it. I hope you keep growing with it, too!

Sorry, but Cakewalk has a big enough issue with its reputation here. This sort of immature BS gives Sonar users and their forum a bad name.

That appears to be more about the bad reputation Avid Pro Tools is creating for themselves and how Sonar is the remedy.cryophonik wrote:Looks like the pump was primed from the get-go.Hink wrote:but let's not prime the pump either

Which makes it a +1 for Sonar.
