Fook, I just saw how cheap these eMac's are! G4 1.25 is like 549 GBP, brand spanking new. Something tells me there must be one almighty catch! So whats the deal with these fellas?

The only catch is the lack of expandability.tee boy wrote:Fook, I just saw how cheap these eMac's are! G4 1.25 is like 549 GBP, brand spanking new. Something tells me there must be one almighty catch! So whats the deal with these fellas?
But with the Firewire/USB2 revolution underway even that isn't that big a problem anymore.
I found an interesting site the other day in which some guy explained how he upgraded his eMac. Appearently, you can fit a second drive in there, change the fan, add a monitor to share the desktop, &c. He even overclocked his 800 MHz eMac to 1.25 GHz (1).
I'll see if I can dig it up.

(1) but you really don't want to read it. Scary stuff as Macs have no jumpers on the mainboard.
PS: I'm currently editing a pretty graphics- and compositing-heavy and complex project on FCP and the only problems I encountered are typical FCP bugs. eMac 1 GHz, 512 MB memory. Go figure.
Pop music delenda est.
