not home yet but saw the sale at jrr and just checking some youtube vids, sounds nice and easy, but do you use it? or would you say if you got a compressor, soundtoys + Plugin Alliance tools you dont need it?

I usually use NI Transient Master for broadband, or iZotope Alloy or Neutron for multi-band. The things that stand out to me about DS-10 are the attack shape and the mojo controls. The bonus is the soft clipping.

I make my own drum hits a lot, so I use tools like this fairly often. Either for extracting/enhancing desirable parts of sounds or polishing the end result. How useful it is to you is your job to decide. It's a great price right now. The only thing stopping you is your subjective taste.

It is one of the most feature rich TS on the market and at the current price it is quite a bargain.

I also like it has different algos for kick, snare and buss.

thanks mates, so would you say it would be a nice complemet to Transient Master etc?

Honestly I don't think you need two transient shapers, I would get DS10 and resell transient master.

+1 on DS-10 being one of the best transient shapers out there, and not just for drums. I've used it on guitars for added bite, bass for more definition, etc. A bargain at its current sale price, I'd say.

Cheers,

Sure. I think DS-10's attack can sound more like a compressed attack, and I especially like how the mojo controls work on acoustic and hip-hop hits. Transient Master is a little more NI; it works well on synthetic or acoustic, yet doesn't really have any standout features like DS-10.

This is my 10th transient shaper plugin over the years. They're super important to me, & DS-10 is amongst the very best :)

Nothing beats elysia nvelope imo

It's my go-to transient shaper. I use it mostly as a mastering tool and it has a better detection rate than any others. The bus mode is good and the three different algos all have their own benefits, although i find using two instances in sequence can be interesting, first kick followed by snare. They don't work so good in parallel though.

I also have elysia nvelope which has its uses, often more specialised and does work well in parallel. I rarely use Transient Master any more although i'd say it excels on stuff with already clear transients (minimal techno or glitch in particular).

For half price, i'd deffo say get the DS-10 though, I'll be looking at RC-20 while it's discounted myself.

I thought this would be just normal, mediocre transient shaper before I demoed it.
It turns out that it is excellent transient shaper! I'll pick it!

I've been A/B'ing DS-10 and NI's Transient Master, and I actually think they compliment each other well, as opposed to being able to replace the other.

NI Transient Master does a better job of reducing the sustains, for isolating the transient, compared to DS-10. There are times when this is great to have, and it seems DS-10 is lacking here.

NI Transient, pretty much stops there, and that's not a bad thing since it doesn't pretend to do anything more than just shape transients.

DS-10 on the other hand, has 3 separate algos for Classic, Natural and Smooth plus an option to focus on either Kick, Snare or Drum Bus.

The Mojo button is very nice as it tends to just beef things up (which of course is a subjective interpretation of "mojo" but if you watched Austin Powers, then this is what one would expect of mojo).

I really don't need this, but I'm going to entertain the idea owning it, just a little long before the sale runs out.

$20 is no-brainer territory especially if you don't already have a transient shaper in your tool box. I have plenty... but it does sound unique when pushed compared to my other tools, so the questions that remains for me, is if its uniqueness is worth $20, especially once the drums (or any transient rich instrument) sits in a mix.

I'm demoing this now in Studio one v 3 and for some weird reason the kick audio is in the snare plugin as well! There is no kick audio but it is effecting the processing i.e i turn up the mojo (body) on the snare and it chatters like a gate when it's useing a short release. This is how i first realised somthing odd was going on as i was dissapointed with it, but then i noticed the transfer window was showing the kick as well as the snare. I muted the kick in the addictive drums plugin and then the mojo body was nice and smooth. I'm useing Addictive drums and have soloed the kick and snare and created output channels for them and a ds-10 for each one it's like the snare ds-10 is being sidechained to the kick ds-10.

Edit - Just created a hi hat channel and the kick AND the snare is being sent to that ds-10 and is effecting the processing weird.

Edit 2 - Looks like this is a studio one and ds-10 issue as i just tried it with kick and snare audio tracks and it was fine and then with kontakt with kick and snare multi out and it was doing the same thing as with addictive drums it seems like the audio is being mute (muteing the channel doen't stop it, muteing the midi does) side chained sequentially through multi output channels, ie 1 into 2, 1+2 into 3 and so on. The only other explination would be that the ds-10 is plugin's are talking to eachother but then wouldn't i see the same effect on seperate audio channels as well? I did try some other plugin's as well and they were fine so it seems that on a multi channel plugin the ds-10 is being side chained or is cross talking to the other plugin's in studio one at least.

Is this the same as the TS built into Addictive Drums or an extended version of it?
