The download time for the WaveForm trial version (3.11 GB) was under 15 minutes courtesy of the Free Download Manager application with a stream from one of the following URLs:

A March release was promised, so the Tracktion team did their best to put out a mostly stable and feature-complete official release build before April 1st.

The reality with any complex software is that it is perpetually a moving target, as never-ending loose ends will always be getting tied up.

So why do they need to release a version update every year. It is the quickest turn over among the DAWs

I mean if Tracktion 7 worked, why the need to fix it just a year later with Tracktion 8 "Waveform"?

Having used Waveform for a few days now I can say I love having a proper mixer option. Its very easy to customize to your liking and really cleans up the editor view for me. I also had a while last night to put the new midi editing functionality through its paces after watching a quick walk-through video. I have to say some of the midi composition tools like the chord functions and the pattern generator are killer for songwriting purposes. Little things regarding midi that should've been quicker in prior releases like instant quantize and transpose are now right there in front and easy to use. If you guys with a second monitor haven't tried un-docking the midi editor and putting it on your second screen, try that as it makes for a pretty sweet workflow.

How's the stability for you so far? Im considering moving to Waveform since I adore some of its features, but I hear stories of the DAW back when it was "T" being notoriously unstable, specificly with VSTS, and I am unable to check stability for myself at the moment...

Thus far its been much more stable than Tracktion 7 and earlier were. Like you've heard from others, I would tend to have issues when it came to VST compatibility. Certain plugins would crash the DAW or cause the cpu usage meter to dance a little higher. Actually, come to think of it, I have yet to encounter an issue with any plugin since upgrading to Waveform. My VST library is embarrassingly large so thats saying quite a bit.

Now there could be other things come along that cause issues but I have yet to discover them in my 4 days of heavy use so Id say stability has been great. This is course makes me a very happy camper since Tracktion was always a great idea plagued with inconsistent performance issues. I'm running Windows 10 64 bit with a 4th gen I5 for what its worth. I'm still debating the upgrade to Waveform after tinkering with the demo for the last few days. The MIDI improvements are nice, the mixer is fine but irrelevant to the way I work in T7 and the rest is just plugins I already have better alternatives for.

$50 isn't bad for an upgrade but Waveform offers less in the way of improvements than T6->T7 did for $30 so I may just wait for a sale.

Generally, a new major release should not only be about never-ending bug-fixes, but it should also be about adding new innovative features (including customer-requested ones) that truly add value.

I, myself, actually prefer Cakewalk's subscription model (with the lifetime updates).

Its an upgrade not update.
There are tons of new features.

That's a shame. It was a good offer, and I had gotten it cheaper before the price increased.

DEMO noise sweep every few seconds drives me crazy? Just one minute and I started to hate this application... Recycle bin is the place for such garbage even it was the best daw on the planet.
