That said, the argument in favor of you doing an A/B video would be simple: I have no doubt that you're way more knowledgeable on these synths than your users.

I think what I'd rather do in that respect is what Dave Spiers of GMedia did: Make videos that show what the synths are like. Give them a proper impression of what a certain synth is about. Then they can see for themselves whether or not the software succeeds in that way.

(Yep, those videos exist - but unfortunately, many of similar videos on Youtube are done with a lot of post processing. That again raises expectations to what it seemingly should sound like, which the software of course can't do without extra post processing)

Didn't read to the thread so apologies if this has been mentioned....The video does not compare envelopes at all. How does the sound respond to envelope shaping (especially the 'attack' stage) , for amplitude and filter modualtion in all plugins? This should be one of the main comparison criteria.

Thing is, no 2 Minimoogs will ever be the same, apart maybe from the clones they produce nowadays.

I'm fairly sure if the guy who made the video had our Minimoog he'd gotten a different picture, probably with all of them sounding too harsh and bright

Also, the Minimoog I bought last year has an incredibly different sound to the one we had back then. It's like, pretty much all parts behave differently.

This is all this talk is pointless. Funny thing: The vast majority of people discussing these never owned a real analogue, let alone the Minimoog. The only heard recordings and videos of the real thing.

Software in its current state of the art mode is already very good, and capable of emulating the hardware with more than 99% accuracy. But the hardware itself sounds different from unit to unit. People who owned and know what analogue is, are aware of this, and don't expect that a software emulation can stand up 100% with EACH hardware unit they are compared too (and this is truer the older the hardware is). Now, program the soft synths you already have properly, and you will certainly have very good, even terrific sounds.

And if you want to beg, beg for something that still doesn't exist, like for example the Korg PS-3300, not "another" Minimoog. It isn't even the best ever synth, far from it. It's only merit resides in the fact that it was the first mass market (kind of...) synthesizer.
