Wags, I saw that you have used Serum. There is literally a sea of presets free and paid out on the web for good drums. You really won't go wrong there.

This is actually incorrect based on the stats. The OSC has always had a small amount of people in and out. Some of them stay around, a lot of them move to other pastures (commercial work, their own projects). Over time new people come in.

I'm about 15% of the song (the basis) and I hope in 10 days I will be done with it. I chose a VA synth (the Legend)

I'm going with Synth1. While I know I won't be placing top 5, I hope to prove some of these naysayers wrong something fierce!

...In all honesty, I'm just going with Synth1 because something like Sytrus is a bit too intensive for my PC to make a full track with.

Interesting month this will be..

Here's a question I guess I have the answer for already... If I was to use Reaktor - could I set up Blocks and do different "synths" per track? That is, one track with a couple of blocks set up for a kick, one track with a completely different blocks setup, with a sequencer for some arpeggios or something like that?

I guess the answer is to stick with one configuration and make that work for all the instruments/tracks, right?

That is pretty much how I worked for the Mux modular OSC. Different modular configuration for each track.

Edit: Probably should point out that it didn't really help much

Can we use a hardware synth? one with multitimbral ability for example.

Now that would be interesting ... I would simply wheel out my DX-11 - my Big Yamaha (Portable Grand) uses a lot of sampled stuff, so that I think would be forbidden, even though in this case I cannot change how it works when it uses those samples - the keyboard scaling doesn't work too well outside the "natural" range for many of the sounds.

Else it will still look like it's Synth1 beckoning ... unless BJ lets me use the Roland Super Quartet, I am actually aiming to do a Jazz track, so it would be cool to use a VSTi designed for just this genre

Pretty please Brian? Don't expect to come more than halfway (my usual placeholder), but would love to entertain, and maybe impress some people. Just would not want to be DQ'd and spoil my long run of challenges

I thought this was a software synth contest so I'm assuming you can't.

Saved myself from the trouble and chose something from another developer. Something that probably no one else will use.

Here's my entry. I won't win a flower pot with it (as we say in Germany

) knowing that this time we again will see + hear some real masterpieces. Anyway, I always wanted to go back to my roots and do some melancholic spacey minimal oldschool electronica stuff like this, almost as if I were sitting in front of my old Fostex 160 late at night with crappy analogish gear, headphones on, and a head full of dreams.

Similar to me ... Synthi-A + spring reverb + 2 Akai reel to reels! Then home made synth + verb + tapes. Then yay, DX-11,CZ-1000,Casio DH-100, Roland CP-40 pitch to midi, Tascam 244, Yamaha FX, Zoom FX.

And yes, Björn, very nice track, it does take me back nearly 50 years - it's been quite a journey to now!

Those were the days when imagination and creativity had no bounds ---
Tascam cassette porta-studio (remember bouncing tracks!)
Kawai SX 7 (no midi) synth, Roland TR606 Drumatix and TB303 Bassline (wish I kept them!) and then:
Midi-Paint with Southworth Jambox
Tascam 1/2" 8 trk tape machine, 2 trk Fostex w/center track time code
DX7
DX drum machine
Oberheim Xpander, M1, D50, on and on..... the rest is history going back to the days when you had to drop 2 - 3K a year on a new synth to keep up with the technology. People don't understand how good they have it that a great synth can be had for a couple of hundred dollars -- or even free!
